JESUS IS THE ONE WHO TRANSFORMS!

Do you know that Jesus is the one who transforms? John 2: 1-11 talks about the wedding in Cana of Galilee, where Jesus changed water into wine. So the chapter starts off telling us that Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding and that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was there too. As the feast was underway, the host ran out of wine. Now obviously that was not a good thing after all it was celebration time and in the Jewish community, wine was always present during celebrations.

Anyway, Mary’s mother turns to Jesus to ask for help and Jesus tells her it was not time for His unveiling. Despite Jesus’ answer, Mary told the servants to obey what Jesus would tell them to do. Jesus then gave them instructions to fill the water jars used for the Jewish cleansing rituals. After they had done that, He instructed them to fill their pitchers and take them back to the master of ceremony. When they poured from the pitcher to the master of ceremony. he tasted it and was impressed because the wine was of the best quality. This miracle caused His disciples to believe Him and led to the unveiling of His glory.

Now on the third day, there was a wedding feast in the Galilean village of Cana, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were all invited to the banquet, but with so many guests in attendance, they ran out of wine. And when Mary realized it, she came to him and asked, “They have no wine, can’t you do something about it?” Jesus replied, “My dear one, don’t you understand that if I do this, it won’t change anything for you, but it will change everything for me! My hour of unveiling my power has not yet come.” Mary then went to the servers and told them,

“Whatever Jesus tells you, make sure that you do it!” Now there were six stone water pots standing nearby. They were meant to be used for the Jewish washing rituals. Each one held about 20 gallons or more. Jesus came to the servers and told them, “Fill the pots with water, right up to the very brim.” Then he said, “Now fill your pitchers and take them to the master of ceremonies.” And when they poured out their pitcher for the master of ceremonies to sample, the water became wine! When he tasted the water that became wine, the master of ceremonies was impressed.

(Although he didn’t know where the wine had come from, the servers knew.) He called the bridegroom over and said to him, “Every host serves his best wine first until everyone has had a cup or two, then he serves the wine of poor quality. But you, my friend, you’ve reserved the most exquisite wine until now!” This miracle in Cana was the first of the many extraordinary miracles Jesus performed in Galilee. This was a sign revealing his glory, and his disciples believed in him.

Lessons to learn from this scripture that will show you that Jesus is the one who transforms.

  • Looking at Mary’s relationship with Jesus, we see that the level of comfort and trust Mary had in Jesus was high. She knew to turn to Him for every problem she encountered. Mary had also come to understand the power and authority that Jesus possessed so much so that although Jesus was only a guest; she knew He could solve the problem. Mary knew Jesus for herself and although she was His mother, she developed a relationship where she saw Him as her source of help. She did not allow familiarity to limit her belief in Jesus’ capabilities. Mary acted on her belief, although Jesus had told her it was not His time for the unveiling.
  • Although Jesus’ time to be unveiled had not yet come, He still did the miracle. He acted on Mary’s belief and trust in Him.
  • The water jars used by Jesus were not noble but of ordinary usage.

What is your relationship with Jesus?

  • What kind of relationship do you have with Jesus?
  • Do you have a personal relationship with Him?
  • And even in that, do you really know him, and do you know His authority and power?
  • Do you trust Jesus?

It is so amazing how Mary could trust Jesus with something, although big was seemingly small. After all, from what the master of ceremony was saying, it seems like the people were already drunk, so could it be that they could have done without it? Anyway, I am just speculating. But the point I want to drive home is the fact that Mary knew Jesus could help, and that was why she went to Him. What situation are you facing today?

Do you believe Jesus can change that circumstance? Has it ever occurred to you that Jesus cares about every detail of your life? There is no problem that is so small that Jesus wouldn’t care for it. And yet there is no problem so big that Jesus can’t fix it. So instead of turning to people who might not even help you, why don’t you turn to God instead we know God wants to help and He will never leave you when you are stranded. Jesus wants you to know that you can count on Him for anything, regardless of what it is. Don’t waste time anymore.

Jesus wants you to involve Him in every area of your life. He does not want you to only come to Him for the big, important, and urgent things, but also for the small, seemingly mundane things. What level of trust do you have in Jesus? Can you honestly say that you trust Him completely? When you are going through a tough situation, do you turn to Him first? Mary did not hesitate or turn to any other person when she realized there was a problem. She immediately went to the one with all solutions. Today, will you resolve to turn to Jesus for everything?

The best and easiest way to build an intimate relationship with Jesus is by keeping Him in the loop as you go along your day. You do not have to wait until evening when praying, just talk to Him throughout the day. Have a moment- to moment check in with Him. This will build your trust in Him and so when the hard and seemingly impossible situations come your way, you will know to turn to Him.

To know Jesus for yourself is what will help you learn to trust Him. You can never trust someone you don’t know. So cultivate a relationship with Jesus. How can you do that?

First, you need to invite Him to be your savior and Lord. Once you have done that, you need to get a Bible to help you read more about Him and learn His character. Prayer and worship are other aspects you should develop as well. And just something to note us that, intentionally setting time aside to spend with Him will really help you in your walk with Him.

Breakthrough is always preceded by faith,

Mary knew that although it was not time for Jesus’ unveiling, He would not leave her high and dry. So she acted on that belief and gave instructions to the servants at the wedding to obey what Jesus would tell them. Now talk about ridiculous faith. There was no way Mary was taking no for an answer. But looking at it we realize Jesus wanted to do it, anyway. He was just waiting to be asked. Could it be that Jesus is waiting for you to ask Him so that He can move on your behalf? Have you asked Jesus to help you?

In Mathew 7: 7. He tells us to ask and we shall receive. But it is clear though that Mary received the miracle because faith and action backed her asking. What action have you taken to activate your faith? Faith without actions is dead? Are you working on what you can so that God can do what only He can? What steps are you actively taking after you ask to show God that you believe in Him and His capability?

Remember the story of Lazarus? Jesus asked Mary if she believed and that when she believed, she would see His greatness. It was through faith that her brother was raised to life. God counted Abraham as righteous because of his faith. It was because of faith that David became the king of Israel. Faith will get you to places you did not think were possible. Faith will move mountains and level the valleys. It does not matter how small your faith is, Jesus can work with it. Just come to Him with that faith as small as it is and watch Him do wonders. He fed 5000+ people with 5 fish and 2 loaves of bread. Imagine what He can do with the faith you consider small.

Obedience

Jesus gave the servants instructions to fill the pitchers with water to the brink and they did so. Have you obeyed what God has told you to do? For Jesus to move, act on what He tells you to do. What was the last thing that God told you to do? And have you done it? God will not give you a new instruction until you work on the one He gave you. So have you? Obedience shows your faith in Jesus.

So do what He has told you and trust that He will do what He does and that is coming through for you. It was because of obedience that Abraham received his promise. God told him that if he moved to the land that God would show him, then he would be blessed. And that’s exactly what happened. Everyone who received their breakthrough did so because they obeyed what God told them. What is God asking you to do? It’s time for you to obey, regardless of how silly it feels.

Jesus transforms the ordinary to special and noble.

The water jars had ordinary usage. The servants filled the jars with water that was used by the Jews for cleansing rituals. Yet from those same jars came the highest quality wine. God can and will transform every bad, broken, and hurting place in your life. He wants to give you beauty for ashes. Jesus restores, but you have to trust Him with those broken places and allow Him to transform them and make them new. Everything Jesus touches, He makes better.

And the thing about His restoration is that He makes it better than the original form it was in. So today I encourage you to give Jesus all those areas of your life that are messed up and ordinary and let Him create a masterpiece that even you will not recognize. God causes Joseph, an ordinary boy, to become second in command in a foreign country. He caused David, a shepherd boy, to become the king of Israel. The disciples who were just ordinary people became the greatest ministers of all time. Imagine what He can do in and through you if you let Him.

Conclusion.

You can trust Jesus in every area of your life and turn them over to Him. Do not allow yourself to feel alone, but look to Him for help. He is more than willing and able to transform your life from ordinary to extraordinary but allows Him to. What areas will you give to Him today? Will you trust Him? Resolve to cultivate an intimate relationship with Him and let Him be your number one in everything.

You can count on Him and He will never let you down. Jesus is the one who transforms lives and situations. He does not live you as He found you. Instead, He will upgrade your life when He steps into the scene. Today I want you to know that Jesus wants to help you in your reinvention journey. He wants to reintroduce you to the version He knows you can be. There is no need for you to remain mediocre. Allow Jesus to transform you today. Jesus transforms lives, and yours is no exception.
