HOLD FIRM TO THE PROMISES GOD SPOKE OVER YOU!

Estimated reading time: 11 minutes

Do you know the promises God spoke over you? Do you have days where weariness overtakes your faith? Have you felt like you cannot go on anymore? Are you giving up on your dream and the promises God spoke over you? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this word is for you. Isn’t it funny how fickle our emotions are? One moment we are full of hope and faith and the next we do not even have the slightest glimpse of hope. I don’t know what you are waiting on God for, but today I want to encourage you to hold on, and even when it seems like you do not have the strength to believe and hope, let your dream do it for you.

Habakkuk 2:2-3, God instructs Habakkuk to write the vision down and make it plain because, although it will tarry, it will surely come to pass. Friends, God is not bound by time and because of that, His timings will always differ from ours. Although God is always late as per our calendar, He is always on time in His and He always has seasons planned out and reasons for the delay in the promises.

Then the Lord replied:

“Write down the revelation
    and make it plain on tablets
    so that a herald may run with it.
For the revelation awaits an appointed time;
    it speaks of the end
    and will not prove false.
Though it lingers, wait for it;
    it will certainly come
    and will not delay.

But one thing we can always be sure of is that God will always keep His promises. He is not a man that He should lie to or a son of a man that He should repent. If He said it, He will perform it. That is God’s track record. Habakkuk knew He could trust God when He told him to write the vision as evidence that He will perform exactly what He has said. What are some promises God has spoken to you concerning your life? Do you, like Habakkuk, know of God’s faithfulness? When he was crying out to God, he mentioned how he knew God had the power to save those suffering and was also honest with God. Can you be vulnerable with God? Can you hold on to the promises God spoke over you? Do you trust God?

 Let us look at some things you need to do with the promises God spoke over you

Write it down.

Just like Habakkuk was told by God to write it down and make it plain, I want to encourage you to do the same. In making it plain, write every detail down. Do you know exactly what God told you? Do you have the nitty-gritty of the promise? If you do not, you need to inquire from Him. In Jeremiah 33:3, God tells us we can ask Him and He will show us the things we know not. God wants a relationship with you and He has so much He wants to reveal to you not just concerning your life but His heart, too.

As a child of God, He wants communion with you and in your communion, He will reveal the plans He has for your life. Know the vision God has for you. So write it down. Again, you will always have something to refer to through your writing it down should you need a reminder.

The benefit of writing the promises God spoke over you is that you will have clarity in your mind concerning the promise. You will not be hazy concerning the promise. Instead, you will have a clear direction on the goals and even the path you should follow. This also ensures that you stay focused on the right track that God wants you to be on. Having a clearly defined and written vision will minimize distractions and prevent you from veering off the wrong path.

David knew that God had called him to be the next king of Israel after Saul. So he was very intentional about what he did and even all the tasks that he took on. Because of this, he could say yes to Saul when he asked him to be his harp player. David did not mind working for King Saul, he was okay with that. He did not allow his current demotion to hinder him from his prize.

Writing the promise God spoke over you immediately helps you not to lose out on the important things that could be key to bringing the promise to pass. This is evident in the fact that David strategically stayed as close to the king as he could to learn all the tricks of being king. Do you know the keys that will unlock your promises? Are you doing what is needed on your end? You need to remember that God will not do your part for you. He wants a partnership with you. So for your [promise to come to pass, you need to actively do what is required of you.

If you do not know the keys that will unlock the promises God spoke over you, maybe it is because you are not spending enough time with Him. Remember, God is always ready to give you keys and strategies. This is because He is rooting for you and He wants you to live life in full. After all, Jesus already paid the price for you to live life and live it in abundance.

Will you resolve to spend time with God and hear what He has to say to you? He wants to reveal to you mysteries concerning your promises. The question, however, is will you take the time to listen? The Holy Spirit, being your helper, wants to help you every step of the way. You can lean on Him too.

Meditate on the promises God has for you.

Once you have written what God wants for you, meditate on them. You now need to hide them in your heart and remind yourself of the promises God has spoken over your life. This will give you the strength to hold on when your current circumstances tell you otherwise. Although Abraham was old, he did not waver on God’s promise to give him a son. Even as the years passed, Abraham held on to the promise. The same thing happened to Simon in the Bible, God had told him he would not die until he saw the Messiah, and even as the years passed by he held on to God’s word and was true to His word, God let him see Jesus and even dedicate Him.

Whenever you are tempted to give up, I want to encourage you to go look at what God has promised you and let those promises cause faith to rise within you. It does not matter how long it is that you have waited, it will surely come to pass. Even God says that even though it tarries, it will come to pass. God is faithful and even the psalmist says that God’s words have been tested and found to be true and the psalmist even gives testimony in saying that God’s promises do come to pass.

Meditation will help anchor your faith in God. It will prevent you from wavering on your faith. The truth is that the promises God spoke over you will get tested. You will go through a process that will make you doubt the promise and even desire to forfeit it. But it is through meditation that you will stay focused.

Meditation can come in different forms. You can decide to speak the promises God spoke over you out loud. You know the Bible says that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. As you speak the promises out loud, you give room to your heart to accommodate the word. After all, if you want anything etched in your memory you need to speak it out loud.

The other thing you need to do is to think about the promise frequently. Again you will believe something to be true when you meditate on it long enough.

Have faith

Faith is the key ingredient that will bring your word to pass. This is because faith pulls what is in the spirit realm to the physical realm. It is faith that can move mountains. And when you have faith, you will see your promises come to pass. So maybe you are wondering how to have faith. Faith stems from a place of trust. Before you can even believe that the promise will come to pass you need to ask yourself if you trust God. Do you trust God will do what He says He will do? Do you believe God will bring to pass the promises He spoke over you? And if you don’t how then can you get to the place where you trust Him?

How then can you ignite your faith?

  • First, you need to have a relationship with God. You cannot trust someone you don’t have a relationship with. It all starts with you inviting Jesus into your life. And asking Him to be the Lord and Saviour of your life. He is more than willing. That is why He died for you before you said yes to Him. He will embrace you and never ostracize you for coming to Him. It is because of His love for you and His desire to have a relationship with you He died. When you say yes to Jesus, you do so because He said yes to you first. It is His love that draws you to Him. So say yes to Him today.
  • Once you say yes to God, now it is time to cultivate a relationship with Him. You can only trust someone you know. So start by reading the Bible and spending time with Him in prayer. Remember, faith is a muscle that has to be exercised. And you are cultivating a relationship with God that will help ignite your faith. The more you read the Bible, the more you get to know Him. As you discover who He is, you can trust Him and His character. Knowing God’s character will help you trust His promises. And this is how faith in the promise will spring up. Because you now know Him, you can trust what He says. And when you read what He has done for others, you will have the faith to believe that He will do it for you too.

Conclusion

Psalm 9:18 tells us that although the poor and downtrodden get crushed, their hopes are eventually fulfilled. This goes to show you that the pain and frustration do not last forever, there is always an end to the storm and although it does not look like it now, you will surely get to the other side.

Do not lose hope because weeping might endure for a night, but joy surely comes in the morning. God sees all and He knows what you are going through. He knows the waiting has been tough and there have been days when facing the day has been a struggle.

But even though it all, He is proud of you for showing up even on days when you do not feel like it. He sees, and He wants to encourage you to keep on because, in your holding on, He will reward you. Never forget that God is faithful in keeping His promises. He will never promise you something that He cannot deliver. Hold on to the promises God spoke over you. Because in due time, they will surely come to pass. It is not denial; it is just a delay. And when your promise comes to pass, you will be glad that you waited.

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up on wings like eagles. So, wait on the Lord, just wait on Him. He is about to surprise you and wipe the tears from your eyes. It is a new day the sun has come, and He wants to give you beauty for ashes.
