Spiritual growth in the wilderness and waiting season

4 Weeks to Becoming: A Journey of Unlearning & Becoming.

Estimated reading time: 8 minutes

Are you experiencing some kind of spiritual-burnout? I would like to invite you on a 4 week journey to becoming. This particular challenge is for those who feel like they have done every possible thing to receive their breakthrough yet nothing has worked. In these 4 weeks, we will look at the 4 key areas that we need to work on so we can become who God created us to be. It is not just another challenge. It is the beginning of your journey to becoming everything God placed inside you.

You see, the world fancies itself on becoming a part of the band wagon, that is the status quo. The Lord however is inviting us to become uniquely His. I want you to remember that God did not just create you as a generic. That is why your fingerprints are uniquely yours and can never replicated. He carefully created you and you are fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14) You are not an after thought. With this in mind, I want you to know that there is a purpose that God created you for. God did not just bring you here to populate it. There is something in you that is able to become a solution on earth.

This then means that you cannot allow status quo, culture, your background or societal standards to define you.

Why the 4 weeks to Becoming

This did not come out of the blues. Before I tell you my story I would like to share the why. As we near the end of 2025, I believe we all go through this moment of self-reflection where we decide we want to do better and experience some kind of change. And what better time to kick-start this journey than this month of October? The Jews have just started a new year and I thought that to coincide with their new year, we would do a challenge that will help us get closer to becoming everything God created us to be.

A couple of days ago as I was pending time with God, I felt an inkling in my spirit to introduce a 4 week challenge to becoming. This came about through introspection and realizing that I too needed a change. The Holy Spirit guided me on the 4 things that I needed to work on. Therefore, there is a pillar for each week and 7 days to put the lesson to practice.

My Advice for the 4 weeks to becoming journey

I would like to advice you to participate. I will have a free workbook that will guide you through each pillar. And a couple of practical exercises too to help you along the journey. The Genesis…

Before we kick things off, I would like to share a little bit about my journey. After making the resolve to take my relationship with Jesus serious in 2019, I went on a spree to do all the spiritual disciplines I could think of. Initially I started off doing them to draw closer to God and heal but as the years progressed I got to a place where I started performing in a bid to get my breakthrough.

You see, I had been stuck for such a long time and all I wanted was to move forward in life. It did not matter what i did, nothing worked. And so I experienced burnout. In fact I got to a point where all I wanted to do was quiet-quit. I could not understand why my effort bore no fruit yet I saw others receive their breakthroughs. At some point I thought that I had not done enough. The truth though was that I was drowning. Everyone around me was complaining telling me how I was over extending myself and how this would eventually kill me. Although I knew what they were saying was true, I did not want to relent until I received my breakthrough. Yet it did not matter how much I tried, the breakthrough seemed to be eluding me.

7 Keys To Help You Move Forward in Life.

Can you relate? Have you gone through a season where you feel like everything you have done has gone down the drain despite it working for others?

The epiphany that started the 4 weeks to becoming journey

In my frustration, I cried out to God. I got to a place of surrender, where I recognized that I could not do it on my own. I was done trying to figure things out and so I asked Him to tell me what the problem was. He first started off by highlighting the parable of the prodigal son. I had never looked at it from that angle before. You see, I had always focused on the fact that the prodigal son had been disobedient and failed to recognize that he had one good quality and that is he knew his position in his fathers house. His identity was secure and fortified.

The more I studied this parable, the more I realized how wrong I had been. I had been going through life trying to earn what God had given to me freely through the finished work of the cross. The more I leaned into this knowledge the more revelation God gave me. And in the process He gave me the first pillar. During these 4 weeks we will look at the 4 pillars that we need to work on so that we can become everything the Lord intends for us to become. These 4 pillars came from a place of revelation as I was trying to make sense of my never ending wilderness and waiting season.

The 4 Pillars for The 4 Weeks To Becoming Journey

Spiritual-Detox

The realization that I had been doing this Christian walk wrong, led me to pause and reflect. And in the process I came to the conclusion that I needed a reset. Now this did not just come from the blues. I have a friend who gave her life to Christ last year and the transformation she has experienced has been tremendous. Seeing that she does less but has tangible results, got me thinking.

I realized that less is more. Allowing your good works and your spiritual exercises to stem from your relationship with God is better. Think about Jesus for a second. While He was walking on the earth, He had the capacity to solve every problem known to man. He however did not do that. Do you know why? It was because the Bible tells us that He only did what He saw His Father do. That meant God had outlined specific assignments for Him to do. Jesus is our example so we should follow His blueprint.

Emotional Healing

Suppressing our emotions means that we get to show up as counterfeits before God. God wants us to come to Him as we are. In a vulnerable and authentic way. I was so focused on performance and assuming that God did not really care about what I was feeling. This could not be further from the truth since God is the one who created the emotions to begin with. Besides that, He also embodies emotions like love, anger, compassion etc. If God- the One who created me can express His emotions, then why can’t I? Especially when I come before Him? The Lord started speaking to me about the importance of healing and being expressive. He made me realize that it is okay to be considered emotional as long as it is in a healthy and safe way.

This pillar will help us navigate the journey of healing emotionally and overcoming the desire to suppress what we are feeling inside.God encourages us to be expressive.

Heart Check

At the core of our emotions is the heart. And after we have learned how to name and regulate our emotions, then we will go straight to the heart healing pillar. This pillar will focus on dealing with the strongholds that have led to the desire to be a part of the status quo. The Lord wants to help us heal from every emotional baggage that has held us back and hindered us from walking in our true identity. You see, for you to be comfortable letting your authenticity shine, there has to be a heart healing that deals with the trauma and the strongholds that shaped your perception of life and yourself.

Mind Reset as a part of the 4 weeks to becoming journey

One thing I have come to realize after listening to Dr Jen and Dennis Clark on the Its Supernatural Network is that until you and I deal with the heart, our mindsets will never change. The renewing of your mind comes from revelation and your heart has to be potent enough to receive the said revelations. Once we have dealt with the heart, we will now replace the mindsets and beliefs we have held on for years that have not only hindered our relationship with God but also prevented us from living in the freedom that Christ paid for on the cross.

Final Call

I want to invite you to join me on this 4 weeks to becoming journey. What better time than as the month winds up? I hope you are excited about it as I am. I am looking forward to reading all the testimonies of healing that you will have received by the end of this challenge. Look out for the next blog post on spiritual detox. And until next time remember, higher is waiting.
