TURNING TO GOD TO SUPPLY YOUR NEED.

Estimated reading time: 11 minutes

How can you trust God to supply your needs? When Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, they were whole and lacked nothing. God had provided everything they would ever need. Their task was to tend to what God had already given them. They were stewards. They were perfect in every aspect, whether spiritual or physical, and even emotional. God provided for them, and they experienced unconditional love from God. I mean, they even used to hang out with God and communicate with Him on a one-on-one basis. Last, they were protected, they lived under God’s protection, so they were unaware of threats that would come their way. In summary, they never experienced a lack and had no need for anything. Once they sinned, however, the mindset came in and suddenly they had needs.

Genesis 1

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

27 So God created mankind in his own image,
    in the image of God he created them;
    male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

What does this mean?

As we see from creation, human beings had 2 tasks: one being ruling over the earth and the other one being fellowship with God. That God had already given them dominion meant that they needed nothing. Everything was going well for them until they ate from the tree of life and death and suddenly the earth changed.

17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’

“Cursed is the ground because of you;
    through painful toil, you will eat food from it
    all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
    and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
    you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
    since from it, you were taken;
for dust you are
    and to dust, you will return.” Genesis 3

You see..

Once Adam and Eve sinned the ground was cursed and from that time, human beings had to fend for themselves. No longer were they living from the realm of God’s provision. There was a change in dynamics. And that was how needs came about. Because we no longer lacked that fellowship with God and no longer had His covering, we now had a void that needed to be filled. And that was how our needs came about. You see, we all have needs. Even the wealthiest people and those who seemingly have it all figured out, need something. We are constantly chasing to have our needs met. And this is all because of the sin in the garden. Although it looks different to each of us, the needs desired can be categorized into 3 groups;

  • Provision
  • Protection
  • Love

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs has categorized each of the 3 as a need.

  • Physiological- food, shelter, and clothing (Provision)
  • Safety- protection and security
  • Love and belonging -friendship, family, etc

Without these 3 human beings cannot function. People who are suffering from addictions of any form lack one or two of these. That is why they try to look for ways to fill the void which leads to negative patterns that cause addictions. Lack of fulfillment is very dangerous as it gives the enemy a chance to create a stronghold in your life. What we cannot realize is that all we need is God. This is because He caters to all these and it was after He removed His covering on Adam and Eve that the void was created and a need arose. It is time for you to turn to God to supply your need. Let’s look at each need and find scriptures that show us how God fills those needs and how we can position ourselves to have each need met.

Turn to God to supply your need for protection

We all have a need for protection. It is no wonder that the UN created an international body of human rights law. This body clearly states that every human, regardless of race or religion, is entitled to social protection. So you see how important protection is to a human being. It makes sense then why when there is war in a country people will seek to move to another that is safe. Anyway, if we look at the Bible, we see that God always has a redemptive plan. He knows human beings need to feel secure, and so He established a leeway for us.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalms 91

Therefore,

God wants to protect you and give you the safety you need. That safety and security you are looking for can only be found in Him. He is, after all, the ultimate source of protection. And the best part is that His protection comes with a sense of peace. When you know that the One protecting you is Sovereign, you will sleep better at night.

Today, I encourage you to turn to God to supply your need for protection. And for Him to do that, He only requires that you abide in Him. This simply means having a relationship with Him. And to do that, you need to know Him. Let me ask you this: do you have a relationship with Jesus? Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour? If you haven’t, I encourage you to do so today. Invite Him into your heart. And ask Him to forgive you of your sins.

Abiding simply means involving God in every area of your life and giving Him the center stage of your life. Checking in on a moment-to-moment basis is key. So instead of looking for protection in fellow human beings, why don’t you go to The One who is Protection? That is Jehovah Sabaoth. Turn to God to supply your need today.

Turn to God to supply your need for Provision

While in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had everything they could ever need. Their work was to tend and dominate. But once they sinned, God drove them out of the place of abundance, where He was their provider to fend for themselves. Food, shelter, health, and clothing are essential to human survival. There was no way the Israelites would have survived the wilderness if God had not fed them. Okay, maybe they would have if God strengthened them like He did Elijah. But you get my point, right? Anyway, God is our provider and Philippians 4:19 tells us that God will supply all our needs according to His riches in Glory.

God calls Himself Provider, that is Jehovah Jireh. He provided manna in the wilderness for the Israelites and provided food to Elijah during the famine. He tells us in Isaiah 55 that He wants to satisfy us with all we need as long as we go to Him.

Isaiah 55

“Come, all you who are thirsty,
    come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
    come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
    without money and without cost.
Why spend money on what is not bread,
    and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
    and you will delight in the richest of fare.
Give ear and come to me;
    listen, that you may live.

There is nothing too difficult for God. He provided for the Israelites manna from heaven every day when they were in the wilderness. And He wants to do the same for you. It does not matter what you need God to provide for you. He can and wants to do it. Are you facing a need for provision? God wants to take care of it, just ask Him. Therefore, turn to God to supply your need for provision today. All the riches, wealth,s silver, gold, earth, and heaven belong to Him. Ask Him. The Bible tells us that the reason we don’t have sometimes is that we don’t ask. What are you waiting for? Turn to God to supply your need for provision.

Need to Love and Be Loved

God is love. God created us in His image and likeness. With this in mind, we can agree that God wired us for love. This means that our natural response to circumstances should be love. This is something I learned from Dr. Carolynne Leaf in her book, who switched off my brain. But again, because of the fall of man, fear gained access in our lives and this created a void. This void created a need for love.

All human beings crave love and desire to love as well. This means we cannot fully satisfy this craving until we experience God’s, Supernatural love. It is the only love that will fill the void. His love is not only unconditional but has healing power. God’s love also sets us free from fear and sin. The only way we can extend love to others is when we allow God’s love to wash over us as well. His love will cleanse us and give us a healthy love to pass on to others.

The Bible reminds us…

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

And yet again…

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world, we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

Conclusion

Turning to God to supply your need is the best way you can meet these 3 important needs that as human beings we need to survive. The void we have is because of the first sin that Adam and Eve committed. And our creator is the only One who can fill that need. God is a loving father whose ultimate goal is to see you lack nothing. That was why He sent Jesus to come to earth. And God wants us to live a full life. In John 10:10, Jesus tells us He came so that we can have life in abundance.

To summarize all these, I just want to tell you to run to God to supply your need because He will satisfy them all. And guess what? There are no negative side effects. He will satisfy them all. He has a solution to all your problems and knows how to satisfy your needs.
