Estimated reading time: 11 minutes

Are you in a season where you know God is asking You to say yes to His will and it makes no sense to you? Has God been challenging your beliefs and cultural norms? If you answered yes, I would like to invite you to this journey where we explore this topic further. Sometimes, God will ask you to do something unorthodox and challenge your mindset and logic. But I would like you to know that as long as it comes from God, you need not be afraid to take the plunge and embrace the new path.

Table of Contents

Before we go any further we need to find people in the Bible who had to say yes to God’s will despite it making no sense.

  • God asked Abraham to move to a new country and leave his comfort zone. He promised that he would bless and make him a father of nations. One would question, why did he have to move to be blessed? Genesis 12
  • Abraham became a father at 100 years old and Sarah conceived a child at 90 years old. How is that even possible? Abraham believed that God would do it and then that God accomplished His purposes and Isaac was born. Genesis 21
  • God told Moses to strike the water at the Red Sea for it to part. And when Moses obliged, the Red Sea parted and the Israelites crossed safely to the other side. Exodus 14
  • Moses struck a rock to bring forth water. How does that even happen? Exodus 17
  • What about marching around the walls of Jericho for 7 days and then having the walls come down on the 7th day? Joshua 6
  • Mary conceiving by the power of the Holy Spirit. How in the world was that even possible given that she had no relations with any man? Luke 1
  • Elizabeth conceiving in her old age. Luke 1
  • Jesus feeding over 5000 people with 5 fish and 2 loaves of bread. Mathew 14

All these incidences are a reminder that God’s ways are not our ways and that He does what He wills to bring about what we could not. If God has asked you to do something that seems strange, you are in the right company. The people we’ve just seen above all had moments of doubt because of what God had asked them to do. And we now know them because they chose to partner with God by saying yes to God’s will.

Having seen these examples, let’s get into today’s topic. But before that, let’s explore how you can learn to trust God. After all, you can only learn to embrace God and say yes to His will by trusting Him.

How to ignite your trust in God to say yes to God’s will.

The number one key that will help you trust God is getting to know Him. A relationship with God is imperative if you want to trust Him. After all, trust is built through relationships. You cannot trust someone you hardly know. Let me ask you this, do you have a relationship with God? Do you have a personal relationship with Him? If not, it is time for you to say the prayer of salvation and invite Him in your life. The Bible reminds us that if we confess Him the Him being Jesus with our mouths and believe in our hearts we will be saved. Salvation is easy. You only need to have faith. You don’t need to become perfect and clean yourself up to come to Him. Jesus wants you to come just as you are. It is as simple as that.

If you made the decision to receive Jesus as your Lord and savior, I would like to congratulate you on that. It is the biggest decision you will ever make. The next step is to find a Bible believing church that will help you grow in your walk with God. Below are some resources that I highly recommend that will help you in your Christian walk. Connect with people who will help pray for and with you and tell you your next steps

Praying the prayer of salvation is only the first step. Now that you are born again, the next step is to start cultivating your relationship with God. And the most important way is to study His word. The Bible as Lisa Harper always says is a love letter from God to you and me. Reading the Bible will help you get to know God better. After all, how else will you get to know God who you can’t see? Reading the Bible can be overwhelming which is why I recommend starting with the book of John. This book will give you context on the Gospel. That is the birth, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

As you read the Bible, you will get to understand the heart of God, His character, and His intentions over your life. This will then give you the confidence to trust Him to lead you. And in turn, will make saying yes to Him easy.

Prayer which simply put is communication with God is yet another key that will help you in your walk with God as you learn to trust Him. Prayer is the highest form of surrender and relinquishing of control

Communing with the Holy Spirit is yet another way that will help you trust God. In Romans 8, we see that it is the Holy Spirit who reveals Jesus and The Father to us. Therefore, when we commune with Him, He teaches us who God is and reveals to us His heart, ways, and plans. While this may seem daunting at first, the key is to be open. Just ask the Holy Spirit for His guidance and invite Him into every area of your life. Get rid of all the clutter and other voices and allow His voice to be the main voice you adhere to. Again this comes with reading the word and familiarizing yourself with His character and heart.

Last but not least, listening to other people’s testimonies who trusted God and prevailed will also help ignite your trust in God.

Now that we know how to trust God, let’s look at how to say yes to God’s will

How to say yes to God’s will.

Surrender

Surrender is vital if you want to walk in the will of God. Living a life surrendered to God will help you say yes to Him. It is not until you relinquish control that you will embrace Him and His will. Maybe God has been asking you to let go of what you thought your life would look like and embrace the new path He has for you. Has God been redirecting you? Today I want to encourage you to surrender your will fully. Allow Him to become the master over your life. It might seem daunting but following God’s will will lead to you living a life of fulfillment and contentment. How then can you surrender?

The key to surrender is fellowship with God. This boils down to trust. It is not until you fully trust God that you will embrace His will. Coming to the end of yourself requires that you know He is the Sovereign God, Creator and all Powerful. This means that the control you think you are is just an illusion. Have you been l.iving your life thinking that you own it? Let me ask you this, how many things have you managed to prevent from happening to you if you really are in control? And why wouldn’t you want to try God’s will?

Look at Jonah, he tried running away from God’s will and ended up in the belly of a fish. You see, here is protection when we align our will with God’s will. Could it be the storm you are experiencing is because you are running away from God’s will. God blessed Hannah with Samuel when she aligned her will with God’s will. Could your delay signal that God wants to partner with you? What will it take for you to say yes?

God’s plan are higher than yours and better. In the book of 1 Coritnthians 2:9, the Bible reminds us that no eye has seen or ear heard what God has in store of those that love God and are called in His name. Because Abraham embraced God’s will, he became the father of nations. Mary became the mother of Jesus because she submitted to the will of God. And Hannah became the mother of Samuel and was blessed with more children once she submitted to God’s will. There is so much more on the other side of your surrender. Take that leap

Do it scared

You see, saying yes to God will cost you. There is always a price to pay. Think about Jesus going to the cross. He knew He had to say yes although He did not want to. However He chose to submit to God’s will instead of His. Do you think it was easy for Abraham to leave his comfort zone and his people to follow God? No! It was not easy for him to do that. However he made a choice to say yes and that led to him becoming the father of faith. And we also read thatGod considered him His friend. To the point that God revealed to him his plan to destroy Sodom. How cool is that.

What about Hannah? Imagine giving up your son and deicating him to God after waiting for years to get a child. Yet she submitted to God’s will. And through her obedience, God blessed her with more children. At the time though she did not know. She however chose to do it scared. Mary had to bear the pain of being ridiculed. Who would believe that she had a baby via miraculous conception? She risked losing her fiancee, yet she said yes.

Your yes will cost you. However there will be a reward for that. If you are scared of taking the road less traveled, I want to encourage you to do it anyway. The risk will be so worth it. And not only is there a reward on the other side of your yes, but you will get to partner with God. And through this you will be able to reveal His glory to the world. Don’t be afraid of giving God your yes because you are scared, do it scared!

Stay close to God

Because of the weight of your yes to God and submitting to God’s will, it is imperative to stay close to God. You see, the enemy will try to get you to forfeit what God has for you by instilling fear in you. You will have moments where external pressure will cause you to forfeit what God is asking you to. Pioneering something is not always easy. And you need encouragement from God. Staying rooted to God means spending time in His word, prayer and worship. After all, taking the road less travelled means you lack the blueprint and need His guidance every step of the way.

Clarity will come in your moments of solitude. As you stay close to Him you will learn to discern His voice. And this will make it easy for you to follow His ways when He speaks. How will you know where to go or what to do next, if you are not rooted and in close proximity to Him? Sometimes just having a simple conversation with Him and inviting Him into every part of your life and day is all you need. Allow Him to interrupt your plans and shift things how He sees fit.

Block out the noise

You cannot focus on what was when God is taking you to a new path. You will remain stuck if you keep looking behind. And again when you allow people to predetermine how your life is supposed to be you will find it difficult embracing His will. You need to remember that it is you that God gave the vision to and not them. Now don’t get me wrong, it is important to get confirmation as to whether the word came from God or not. And also be able to discern God’s voice clearly.

However, once you’ve done that you cannot keep explaining yourself to others. Sometimes you will need to block out the noise. When God is doing something new, it will not make sense to others. And this is because it will contradict with the culture. Maybe God is connecting you to someone who does not fit your pedigree. Or maybe God is asking you to step into a field that’s not new. Sometimes it could be that God wants you to leave a comfortable job to start a business. Or maybe God is asking you to move back home. Whatever the case may be, blocking out the noise is the way to God.

The same way Jesus only allowed certain people in the room when he was raising Jairus’s daughter, you need to do the same. You cannot allow doubt to seep into your mind when you are on a journey of faith. Mary could only share with Elizabeth her journey because she was the only one who could understand.

Be very sensitive and careful with who you allow to walk with you in this journey. Ask the Holy Spirit for the gift of discernemenr. And allow Him to lead you to the right people. God might require that you even leave your current church and find a community that gets it. Whatever it takes, guard your heart, your path and your mind. Remember saying yes to God’s will can be confusing at times.

Conclusion

Saying yes to God’s will can be daunting. However it is always worth it. Knowing that you are not in control will help you say yes to God’s will. Let me remind you this: You can trust God and His heart towards you. In Jeremiah 29:11, the Bible reminds us that Gods plan for you and me is good. He has only great plans for us and not evil.

Therefore if He asks you to walk down an unfamiliar path, always remember that it will work out for your good. And in the end, you will see the glory that comes from your obedience. Remain encouraged. Friends, I pray that this word blesses you and gives you the confidence to say yes to His will. Let me know in the comment if you are wrestling with God or have fully surrendered to His will.
