5 Lies Christians Battle As They Wait On God.

How long have you been waiting on God? Do you feel like you have been waiting on God for such a long time? Have you doubted whether what God promised you will come to pass? Maybe you have seen people excel and get out of their waiting season, but you are still stuck. Have you been feeling like a failure because things don’t seem to be moving forward for you? I have a word for you. But before I do that, let me encourage you by saying that you are not alone. Yes, it might feel that way, especially if where you are everyone else seems to be progressing. But the reality is that there are other people who are going through the same thing. And also there are seasons for everything. Just to show you that you are not alone, let me give you a Bible character.

Biblical Example

So in the book of Luke, the writer introduces us to Zechariah. And as Luke starts off, he tells us that Zechariah had waited ON God for a long time for a child. He and his wife Elizabeth were barren. Now imagine how they must have felt. First off Zechariah was a priest, meaning that he was definitely doing God’s work and in His will. Yet here he was childless. He must have wondered what was wrong with him and what sin he must have committed for such a punishment. He and Elizabeth desired a child, but they had been unsuccessful time and time again.

Can you imagine the pain and agony they must have felt? Imagine the ridicule they must have experienced. I bet it was traumatizing and heartbreaking at times. You know there are moments when they must have questioned their walk with God. Maybe you have been questioning your walk with God. Maybe you are wondering if your walk with God is even worth it.

He was a priest, meaning he served as a medium between the people and God. And yet he was not able to intercede for his own need. Can you imagine that? Anyway, the angel appeared to him and told him that finally God would fulfill his desire and give him a child. And from everything, the Angel told him it was clear that timing was the reason for the delay.

You see their son John was the forerunner of Jesus. He was to clear the path for Jesus by preaching repentance and baptizing people. His task was to get people ready for the Messiah. So his birth had to be timed perfectly so that he could come at just the right time. On the flip side, Mary was around 15 years (theologians came to this conclusion) when Angel Gabriel appeared to her concerning the birth of Jesus.

So again, it could not have been earlier because Mary was still a child. Oftentimes we think about our timing and fail to take into account other people’s timings as well. You might be ready for your promise, but what you don’t know is that the people tied to your promise are not ready. God might have prepared you, refined you, and even told you that He is launching you. But it can only happen when everything else is perfected too.

That’s why God’s timing is perfect. He factors in everything and ensures that everything is set for the fulfillment of the promise. Unfortunately, this is a bitter pill to swallow. It can be difficult to accept this truth. And because of that, we can find ourselves trying to do things in our own strength which oftentimes lands us into trouble and wildernesses we were not even meant to be in, in the first place.

What are the lies that you need to overcome waiting on God?

Something is wrong with you.ย

The waiting on God season is not easy and it can be challenging, especially when people around you are progressing. Maybe you live in an area where it seems like everyone else is living in their promised land but you. And although you do know better than to compare, you can’t help but wonder when your turn will come. Is this how you have been feeling? Have you been wondering when it will be your time? Maybe because of this you have found yourself wondering if something is wrong with you. Is the question ‘why has it yet to happen’ lingering on your mind

First off I need you to know that nothing is wrong with you. The truth is that there are times and seasons that God has set. And your promise will not come to fruition until its appointed time. While it’s true He has to work on you, before He can give you the promise so that the promise does not destroy you. The promise is still yours.

Every promise God gives you is yours and can never be taken away from you. Take a look at the Israelites. They messed up so many times. But because God had chosen them as His chosen people and race, He still forgave them. God is not a man that He should lie to you. He also never makes a promise with no intention of fulfilling it.

Again, when God makes the promise, it means He has already equipped you for it. He knows you are the best person for you. Therefore, nothing can disqualify you from the promise that God has given you.  The truth is that He qualified you for it. There is nothing wrong with you. He also created you in His image and He saw you as perfect when He created you. Rest in the assurance that it is because of His timing, not yours. Granted, you do have some flaws and so does everybody else. But if perfection was what qualified people, no one would be worthy of anything. He gives us His promises because He loves us and He knows that we can handle it. But remember there is a process to the promise and that is why there is a delay.

You are not good enough

Has the lie that you are not good enough been looming over your head. Maybe you have been allowing the lie to threaten your peace. And maybe you think that it is because you are not good enough that you are still waiting on God when other people have experienced breakthroughs. Do you feel inadequate? Do you feel like you are not worthy of the promise that God gave you and that’s why you are yet to experience a breakthrough?

Maybe the enemy has been trying to show you your past and remind you of every mistake you have ever done and that’s why things are yet to work out for you. Maybe he has been reminding you of your past failures as a way to show you that you are not good enough. If this has been you, today I want to remind you that you are good enough. This is not because I say so, but because God who created you says so.

When God created you He saw you as perfect because you were created in His image and likeness. He loves everything about you. Because He is the creator and He is perfect, it means you are perfect. Also, the fact that you have Jesus living inside you means that you have been perfected through Jesus. You are perfect in Jesus and you are good enough.

Do not allow the enemy to keep you stuck in this thought pattern. You are worthy of the promise. You are worthy of the breakthrough. And it is just that it is not yet time. This is the reason your promise and breakthrough are yet to manifest.ย God knows you are the one best qualified for the promise He has given you because He equipped you for it before you were born

Time is running out

Sometimes you might think that because what you are waiting for is yet to come to pass and you are getting older then it might never happen. You can even start imagining how whatever you have prayed for will never come to pass because time has gone by. Look at the story of Sarah. Because of the essence of time, she ended up trying to do things in her own strength. She got to the point where she grew weary of waiting on God for His promises. So she got Hagar to bear a son with Abraham on her behalf. Can you relate? Have you found yourself trying to make things happen in your own strength? Do you feel like God has delayed in fulfilling what He promised?

Let me encourage you in your waiting on God. You see, God is the promise keeper. When He makes a promise, He knows how He will bring it to pass. Sarah was able to conceive despite her old age because God had promised them a son through her. Everything is possible with God. He is able to part the Red sea and make a way where there was no way. He is the One who rained down manna from heaven to feed the Israelites. And He did so for 40 years. He gave the Shunamite woman a son yet she had waited for so long. God redeemed Ruth through Boaz and He restored everything Naomi had lost.

God is not restricted by time. When He says He will do something, He will. Rest assured that God will do it and He has the power to do it. He is the author of time. And when it is time, He will cause everything to work out in your favor. Always remember that there is a time for everything. And it does not matter how much time has passed, it will come to pass. You are still in God’s timing.ย

You missed it

The other lie could be that you have missed it. You might even think it was in the opportunity that you failed to take. And it could be true, but God is able to Redeem it. But this should not cause you to live in the constant fear that you missed it. This will cause you to lower your worth and settle for what’s not yours. The enemy uses this lie to get you to forfeit your promise and settle for less than what God has for you. Esau, because of hunger forfeited his birthright. Don’t allow the enemy to get you to go down a path that God did not ordain for you and miss out on His best. Simply because you have allowed the enemy to lie to convince you that you have missed it.

Let me ask you this, Is God Sovereign? If He is, do you think He will fail to tell you when the right opportunity comes your way? Now I am not endorsing laziness. What I am saying is that as long as God is the one who is directing your path, He will never allow you to miss what He has for you. Despite the fact that Moses ran away after killing the Egyptian man, God did not allow him to miss it. He encountered him in the wilderness. So whatever God has for you is for you.

Can you imagine God calling Moses 40 years after he ran away from his calling? How then do you think you missed God? God is gracious and He sees your trust in Him. He will ordain you in such a way that your purpose will not miss you. If God can do it for Moses, He will do it for you too. Peter after DENYING Jesus thought he had missed his calling, but Jesus redeemed him. So whether you are like Peter, who missed it willfully or you are like Moses, who acted before time, remember that God is still writing your story. And you will achieve the purpose He set out for you.ย

God has forgotten about you.ย

Do you like Joseph feel forgotten by God? Maybe you think that God has forgotten the promise He made to you. And maybe you have resigned yourself to that feeling. The Israelites while in bondage felt forgotten by God. They thought that God had forsaken them. Yet again, it was an issue of time. God timed it in such a way that Joseph would be promoted just in time. This was so that he could stock up and prepare for the drought.

Elizabeth thought God had forgotten her because she did not have a child. The truth however was that her child would be the forerunner of Jesus. Hannah thought God had forgotten her. The truth however was that God wanted to raise up a prophet through her. You are a child of God. This means that He has you in the palm of His hand. He has orchestrated everything and He is just waiting for the appointed time. God will never forget you. He had a purpose for you before He created you. How would He forget His own masterpiece? You are His masterpiece.

Conclusion

Waiting on God is never a waste of time. Everything He promises He will fuldill because He is faithful and trustworthy. Do not feel like you have missed out on Him. Your path and steps are ordained by Him. He will not allow you to miss it because you are obedient. And those who trust in God will never be put to shame. You will get to your promised land. You can be sure of that. Do not grow weary waiting on God.
