So here you are, stuck and wondering what’s next for you. Maybe you’ve had a good thing going, and it has now ended. Or maybe things have become so uncomfortable in the place you are in and now it’s time for you to move. Or maybe you’ve lacked motivation and are looking to switch things up. Whatever it may be, here is a word that will encourage you to move forward. It is important to realize that moving forward is something that we all have to do at one point in life. And it can be triggered by a variety of events, some life-changing, and others seemingly trivial.
First off, it’s important to remember that stepping out of the familiar is difficult. It is daunting and often times the first step is usually the hardest. But the good thing is that it gets easier with every step you take. Is God asking you to move forward and maybe try something new? Has this whole thing been so scary and are wondering where to start? Don’t worry, allow me to try to help you navigate this new era. So are you ready to learn some steps you need to take?
7 Keys to Help You Move Forward.
These keys are meant to help you find some structure as you navigate the new.
Confront your emotions.
I know you are scared and feeling a little lost. And that’s okay. Frankly, it would be weird if you said you are not afraid. After all, you are a human being and change is not something that we embrace easily. So learning to confront your emotions and actually admit that you do have them is key to helping you move forward. Admitting to yourself that you are afraid will lessen the fear. After all, addressing your diagnosis is the key to proper treatment. Confronting your emotions can be as simple as being aware of what you are feeling and being able to put a label on the exact emotions. Or it can be finding someone to talk to to help you unpack your emotions. You can even choose to journal your feelings, too. Sometimes it can be difficult to try and make sense of what it is we are feeling. That is why confronting your emotion is powerful. Address your emotions so that they don’t wreck you and keep you stuck in the past.
Having confronted the emotions next, you need to find ways to alleviate the fears and one way to do that is to be grateful for the past but not dwell on it. This brings me to my next point, stop dwelling on the past.
Stop focusing on the past.
It is good to look back and celebrate past achievements. But allowing the past to keep you from moving forward is wrong. It’s true that that career was good. It’s true the place was good or the relationship was great. Unfortunately, it’s over, and all you have now are memories of the past. The question is, will you allow your past to be the best thing that happened to you? Or will you embrace the new and give room to the best that God has for you? As long as you are breathing, your best is yet to come. The beauty of God is that He will always give us a future that’s greater than our past. Unfortunately for you to embrace the new, let go of the past.
It’s good to reminisce about the good old days. But don’t let them keep you from moving forward. There is something better on the other side.
Some of the ways you can stop focusing on the past in order to move forward.
Embrace change.
It’s scary to do something new, but it’s also rewarding. After all, the only way to get going is to step out of your comfort zone. And the best things come from the most challenging of places. Embracing change is a vital step to helping you move forward. Accept the new thing that is coming your way no matter how uncomfortable it feels. It is always scary trying out something new. But it is in the discomfort that you will be able to move forward.
Being flexible will help you move forward in life.
God has something better and that’s true. But oftentimes, He brings the new in unexpected ways. Don’t expect it to look like you knew before. When God takes you down a new path, He will challenge your traditions and background. Sometimes you will even question if you are on the right path. But the best course of action for you is to hold on and follow His leading. He is always doing a new thing. Can you perceive it?
Be open to the ways THAT God is leading you. He might get you to do something that you’ve never done before. He could ask you to leave your career and step into something new. Right now your moving forward could be as simple as trying a new hobby. Or creating a new routine. Either way, if you feel the nudge of the Holy Spirit to do something different, just do it. It’s easier to move with the flow of the river than go against it. After all, we do know that God always gets His way in the end. And not just that, His way is always the best.
Just look at Jonah’s case. God told Him to go to Nineveh to preach and he resisted. But God had a storm come that had him thrown into the sea and a whale swallowed him and he stayed in its stomach for 3 days. Obviously, that was a tad much. But that’s God, He will get us to our destination no matter what. So instead of you getting there kicking and screaming, just submit to His leading. Be open to new possibilities because God wants you to experience Him in ways you have not thought of yet and this will require you to take a step forward and not dwell in the past.
Trust God.
The path is unfamiliar. But one thing to note is that God is with you and He is good. By you know this, you will easily trust His leading because you know that He does care about you. How differently would you live your life if you trusted God wholeheartedly? Would it be easier to trust Him if He asked you to change directions? I know you are scared, but I want you to know that you can trust God because He is faithful and always wants to bring you to a beautiful expected future. Your latter days will always be greater than your former days. And although it is scary now, you have a beautiful destination waiting. Enjoy the ride.
Trusting God will involve you learning who He is and believing in your heart that He is good and He has a plan for your life. Trusting God is letting go of all, the plan Bs and Cs and sticking to the plan He has for you.
Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way]. Proverbs 3:5โญ-โฌ6 AMP
Obedience will help you move forward in life.
As you move forward you need to realize that you have to be obedient to God. What is He asking of you? What does His word say? Are there specific instructions that the HOLY Spirit is giving you? Disobedience could bring delays and unnecessary trials in your life. The walk will not be easy, but it will be easier when you obey than when you don’t. Obedience brings prosperity. That the path is unfamiliar means you need all the help you can get. And if you want to experience God’s help, you have to follow WHAT He is saying. Obedience and trusting in God wholeheartedly will get God to direct your path and bring you to your promised land.
Have Faith.
Faith is the substance of the things unseen, the evidence of things hoped for. When you are unsure and don’t understand, have faith and keep going. Granted there will be moments where quitting will feel like the only option, but when you persist and keep going even when the going gets tough, you will get to the other side. Faith is what pleases God. It is also what will get you in the right standing with God. Look at Abraham, it was His faith in God that counted him as righteous. Faith will also help you counteract the lies of the enemy.
Find out what God says about you.
The only way you can succeed in moving forward is by knowing your identity. When you know who you are and dwell on that, moving forward will be easy. This is because you will not stay stuck in things that don’t serve you, simply because they give you a sense of identity. Could it be that the reason you are yet to move forward with your life is that you don’t know who you are? Are you stuck because you lack a sense of identity? Knowing who you stem from knowing what God says about you. What does God say about you? How will you know you are equipped unless you know you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you? How will you know you are powerful if you don’t know that you have the same power that raised Jesus from the dead?
For you to know all these things, read the Bible for yourself. After all, that’s how knowledge and faith come, by hearing and hearing the word of God. The only way you can combat low self-esteem and lack of confidence is by gaining the revelation of who God says you are and what Christ did for you. You are a Co heir WITH Christ and thus you can slay any giant and walk into the unknown with power and authority.
Knowing your identity will give you the confidence to step into the new or handle whatever life throws at you because you understand that you have what it takes to succeed. There are moments when you will have to walk down a road less traveled because God is asking you to. For you to successfully do that, you will need to know your identity. Remember, moving forward or transitioning is never easy and often people don’t understand. Silencing the external voices will be vital and all this will come from discovering who you are.
Embrace Solitude
Solitude will always help you move forward in life. Sometimes the best way to silence the fear is to sit still and allow yourself to analyze the fears and where they stem from. Why are you afraid of stepping into the new and moving forward? Answering this question could be the key to silencing the fear and being confident enough to take the first step. When you want to move forward in life, it is great to listen to your inner witness. What is He saying? Obviously, this is the Holy Spirit that brings me to my next point.
Commune with the Holy Spirit.
You are not meant to walk this path alone. Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to help us in our journey. And He is more than willing to walk this out with you if you will let Him. Also, since He is all-knowing, He will help you avoid unnecessary delays. There are secrets that God wants to reveal to you concerning your new path, and He will do so through the Holy Spirit.
One way you can commune with the Holy Spirit is by creating time for Him. Have a set time for fellowship with Him and be consistent with it. At first, it will be difficult, but the more consistent you get, the easier it will be to not only commune with Him but also have Him speak to you. He is always speaking. Are you listening? Communing with the Holy Spirit will allow you to hear Him clearly when He speaks. Remember that the Holy Spirit always has time for you. But you need to make time for Him too. Pray, ask Him for advice, trust His leading, and obey Him when He gives you an instruction. All these are ways that you can Commune with the HOLY Spirit.
Take that step.
Having done all these, now it’s time for you to step forward. Leave the fear, worry, and anxiety behind. If you have to let them ride with you but do not give them more attention than the faith to step forward. Jesus is with you. All of heaven is rooting for you so there is no need for you to fear. Just like God told Joshua that He would be with him, He is telling you the same today. When God is by your side, nothing should scare you because He is mighty and powerful, and that means nothing will take you out. You might be knocked down, but you will not be knocked out. He is walking with you every step of the way. He wants you to know that He will. Never leave you and He will never bring you this far to leave you here. Do not be afraid!
Conclusion.
Taking that first step and moving forward is not easy. You might even prefer to have things stay as they were. Unfortunately, God is always taking us from glory to glory. And how He does that is by taking us out of our comfort zone. So partner WITH him and allow Him to lead you into the new path He has for you. It’s normal to be afraid, but don’t allow fear to cripple you and prevent you from walking into the new path God has for you.
I know you don’t understand, but just put your trust in your Creator who is the author and finisher of your faith. And always remember that He who began a good work in you is faithful to complete it. The beginning is messy, but the destination will be beautiful. Keep the faith and move forward into what God is calling you to. Heaven is rooting for you and congratulations on taking the first step.
