3 Unique Signs God Is Telling You To Move As A Christian Millennial.

Estimated reading time: 9 minutes

Do you know your season has shifted, but are yet to see a physical manifestation of the promise? Are you in the in-between place? Well, today I have a beautiful and encouraging word for you. And before we start, I want to tell you that you could be waiting on God to move while, in actuality; He is waiting for you to move. So let’s look at the signs that God is telling you to move. And to help with that, let us look at the story of Joshua.

Table of Contents

Joshua 3: 7-17

And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses. Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’”

Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. 10 This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. 11 See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. 12 Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. 13 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.”

14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho. 17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all of Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.

Application

Looking at this scripture, we see key differences between this scripture and Exodus 14. The first difference is that in Exodus 14, God explained what would happen after Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. In Joshua 3 however, it was Joshua who said what would happen.

Again, in this scripture, there was no waiting until the water was parted before they could move. The word clearly shows us they had to take the first step before the water could part. In Exodus 14, they had to wait until God parted the river before they could move.

21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, 22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. (Exodus 14)

And maybe you are wondering how this applies to you, so let me bring it home.

Signs that God is telling you to move.

You know where you are going.

If you know where you are going and you are sure you are no longer in the wilderness, God is telling you to move. Often we are slow to move, thinking we are waiting on God while in actuality, fear is holding us back. So let me ask you this: have you allowed fear to hold you back? And some ways you could have allowed fear to hold you back is when,

  • You continue making excuses because you don’t want to fail
  • You are afraid that God might let you down and therefore you choose the safe path.
  • Continue postponing your launch day because you think the book or video is not perfect.
  • Don’t apply for the job because you think previous disappointments will be the norm.

You will never be fully ready. However, you will never perfect your craft if you never start. The priests had to take that step of faith and trust that the water would part once their feet touched the water. And perfection comes from continuous practice. If you never start, you will never master your craft. What does God want you to do before He can move on your behalf? Child of God, stop hindering your breakthrough. The time is now. Take that first step and watch God do the rest.

You are close to your breakthrough.

When you are close to your breakthrough but have yet to experience it, this is a sign God is telling you to move. God will only do what He can do and will not do your job for you. God required partnership from you. Do you feel you are close to your breakthrough? The Israelites could see the promised land. Not only that, they had sent spies to scout the land.

So all that was left for them to do was to conquer it. Maybe for you, it has something to do with your career. You have studied, and you have researched the industry. Now it is time for you to apply. And the cool thing about God is that He will give you the signs that your wilderness season is over. Or maybe you have always desired marriage. If you have done the work of going through the healing process and have had that time to find your identity and develop a relationship with God. It could be time for you to put yourself out there. And deep down, God might have been giving you the nudge that you are ready. To learn more about this, check out the blog on signs that God is resurrecting dead dreams.

The wilderness is just a season and not your place of habitation. You should not get comfortable there. The enemy might have lied to you that you will never get to the other side. Today, I want you to know that God always keeps His promises. And when the time is right, He makes it happen. So let me ask you this, is fear crippling you yet you are close to your promised land?

Your brook has run dry.

Sometimes it takes your brook running dry for you to move. And because God knows human beings are creatures of habit, He might allow you to experience lack to propel you forward. When your brook runs dry, God is telling you to move. And until you take that step and move, nothing will work for you. Could it be the reason nothing is working out is that God is telling you to move? Some ways your brook can run dry is.

  • Discomfort in your comfort zone.
  • Disagreements with people who God had sent to help you.
  • Inner restlessness and conflict.
  • A deep yearning for more.

How then should you position yourself when God is telling you to move?

Say yes when God is telling you to move.

Your miracle is in the uncertainty. If you know God is waiting for you to move, then your response should be yes. You don’t need to depend on your faith, depend on His faithfulness. After all, it is the Holy Spirit that gives us a measure of faith. You are not doing it alone. God has promised to be with you every step of the way. He will never leave you nor forsake you. God is in it with you. And when you take that step you experience that miracle.

Saying yes to God is not always easy. In fact He will always challenge your thinking and your traditions. But it is in your yes that you will receive your breakthrough. Trust in God requires surrender and relinquishing control. If you are having a hard time trusting Him today, tell Him that. Ask Him for help and He will help your unbelief. It is okay to be afraid, just don’t let fear hold you back. Do it scared and do it now.

Do the thing you can do now.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. Do the thing you can do now. Maybe right now all you can do is apply for that job. Do it. Maybe it is time for you to open your heart to dating. Whatever you feel you can do right now, do it. God will give you just enough for you to make the first step. He will not give you everything because you will get overwhelmed and not move forward. Don’t worry about how it will all work out. Had the priests not stepped into the river, they would never have crossed the Jordan.

God has gone ahead of you. He knows the beginning from the end. Just take that step today. One step at a time is what God is asking of you.

Stay rooted in God when God is telling you to move.

Transitions are often confusing and sometimes messy. Staying rooted in God will ensure that you navigate your transition successfully and get to the other side. Also in God you will get the courage you need to navigate the unfamiliar. God already has the blueprint but He will only give you the next step after you have taken the first one. Stop delaying and do what needs to be done today.

Conclusion.

Joshua had to be courageous. He was experiencing something new and he did not have his mentor (Moses) anymore. He had to act by faith and use the skills he had already acquired through his interaction with Moses and his spending time with God. Not only that Moses had anointed him as his successor. It was time for him to step into the role God had been preparing him for the entire time.

God wants you to do the same. Be courageous because He is by your side. God will empower you as you move. Don’t wait until everything is perfect so that you can move. If you wait, you might end up staying in the wilderness longer than God intended for you to. God created you for a reason. He created you to experience His fullness and be a reflection of Him to the world. And for you to represent Him well, you must operate in the element you thrive best in. And that is your place of promise.

Don’t stay when God is telling you to move. Today I want to encourage you to trust God in the unfamiliar and know that He has already made a way for you. But you will not experience and walk in that miracle if you don’t take that first step.

Picture this, had Elijah not gone to Zarephath he would never have received the sustenance God had for him.

Your miracle is on the other side of your faith. God will not move until you do. You are no longer in the wilderness. Move child of God.
