How To Position Yourself In Times Of Transition as a Christian Millennial.

Estimated reading time: 11 minutes

Are you going through a time of transition as a Christian millennial? And just to help you understand, times of transition are when you are yet to get to your promised land, but you are sure you are not in the wilderness. Can you relate? Have you experienced a shift but physically it has yet to fully manifest? Well, I have a word for you. And to help you get practical tips, we will look at scripture from the Bible.

Joshua 1.

Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying, Moses, my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all these people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Be strong and of good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I swore unto their fathers to give them.

Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee?

Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days, ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.

Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.
Joshua 1:1‭-‬11‭, ‬18 KJV

How to position yourself when you are In times of transition as Christian millennial.

As we can see from the above scripture, the Israelites were in a time of transition. They had lost their leader, Moses. And now they had to take the promised land. They were no longer in the wilderness, but they were yet to get into their promised land. They were in the messy-in-between. And they had to learn how to navigate this new season. Joshua as their leader had to steward the season well so as to successfully get in their promised land. So how did they do it? And how should you position yourself as a Christian millennial?

Stay close to the source when you are in a time of transition.

One thing that is evident is that Joshua remained rooted in God. That is why God was able to speak to Him. And when you are in times of transition, it is imperative that you stay rooted to God. He is the only one who can give you clear directions.

times of transition

As we all know, we act differently during times of transition than when we are in the wilderness or the promised land. No wonder God had to encourage Joshua to be strong and courageous. God knew Joshua was coming out of a season of daily protection to now a season of them fighting for themselves. And the only was they would handle this drastic change is if they remained rooted in God.

Do you know God has strategies He wants to give you? He wants you to know how to position yourself so that you can get the victory. Do you know God’s voice? Can you discern when He is speaking to you? God wants to ensure that you successfully get to the land He promised you. Whether is is a career, marriage, business, or relocation.

There are strategies that God wants to give you. Staying rooted in Him will ensure that you experience a successful transition. How, then, do you remain rooted in God?

  • Prayer. Joshua always communed with God. We even see that in some scriptures he would linger, even after the elders had left. He was always in communion with God. And that was why he heard God when He spoke. We have the same access. In fact, we have even more access to God because of the finished work of the cross. In Ephesians 3:12, the Bible reminds us that in Jesus we have the confidence and freedom to come to God. And the best part is that He wants you to come to Him as you are. The Blood of Jesus already made provisions for your sins. Start praying today.
  • Fellowship with the Holy Spirit. As you fellowship with the Holy Spirit, you give Him room to reveal to you the deep mysteries of God. He can also reveal both God and Jesus to you. As He does that you experience closeness with God and can stay rooted in Him. The Holy Spirit wants to reveal to you who God is. And He wants to help you learn to trust God so that it can be easy for you to stay rooted in Him.

Hold on to the word that God gave you.

Before stepping into the wilderness, there is a word that God gave you. Can you remember His promise to you? Joshua knew God had promised the Israelites the land of Canaan. And God reminded him of the same in Joshua 1. Hold on to that word that God gave you. It might seem out of reach. But hold on to it, anyway. You will need it, especially in a time of transition. And the reason for holding on to that word is that.

Change is good. Keep moving forward.
  • It will help you overcome fear and discouragement. Again, we know the wilderness is a place where God takes care of us. But the promised land is where we use the skills learned in the wilderness to fight for our space in the promised land. Joshua knew they were not professionally trained, and they did not even have the right weapon to fight the army. That is why he had the word from God. This word would anchor h in moments of discouragement. And the same goes for you. When you are overwhelmed with fear because of what is before you, hold on to the word from God. And remember He is not a man that He should lie. He gave you the word, knowing what you would have to experience. So don’t be afraid or discouraged. He has gone before you.
  • Holding on to God’s word will help you silence the schemes of the enemy. The enemy will bring negative thoughts to your mind to derail you from stepping into what God has for you. The enemy will also try to discourage you by convincing you that your situation will. Never change. And it’s easy to fall for his lies, especially when you are yet to see the manifestation despite being in a shift. Use the word that God gave you to fight off negative thoughts. This word will be your anchor when contradicting thoughts come your way.
  • A word from God will help ignite your faith when doubt seems to scream the loudest. Faith is the key that unlocks breakthroughs. Even the Bible tells us that without faith, it is impossible to please God. What is your faith level? If it is low, go back to the word that God spoke to you. Speak it and remember that God’s word will never go back to Him void. And He watches over His word to establish it. You can confidently hold on to His word.
hold on to God's word firmly

Find Biblical characters that align with the word God gave you.

Backing God’s promise with scripture helps ignite your faith. Having found a scripture that speaks to your situation, you will have the confidence that God will do it for you. Let’s say you are in a pit or prison-like Joseph. Seeing what God did for Joseph will help you believe He will do it for you. After all, God is no respecter of persons. And again, we know we overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the power of our testimony. If you are facing lack, the story of the Prophet’s widow will help you know God will use what you have to get you out. Scripture helps give you the basis to contend for your miracle.

Keep it tight when you are in times of transition.

Joshua did not ask people’s opinions concerning the word God gave him. And neither should you. Often, people will not understand what God is doing in your life. And when you ask their opinion, they will advise you based on their experiences. However, we know God does not operate on experiences. He sometimes overrides experience. Look at Joseph. He had no experience leading a nation, yet God made him the second in command in Egypt. Consulting people will only lead to delay. The Israelites remained in the wilderness for 40 more years because they listened to the 10 spies instead of going off of God’s word. ( complaining and rebellion were the exact reason). What God has asked you to do is for you. And you cannot ask someone who did not hear from God to help you decipher if the word is viable.

You must share, then find people who have the faith to cultivate the word. Mary, the mother of Jesus, went to Elizabeth because she knew she would understand. The same goes for you. Find a community that understands and will believe for you. The smaller the circle, the better. You can ask the Holy Spirit to guide you on who to tell. He will give you the gift of discernment. One thing I want you to remember is that the Holy Spirit is for you. And when you ask Him to guide you to the right people, He will.

Focus.

When you are in times of transition, you cannot afford to do everything. You need to focus on what you can right now. What is God asking you to do right now? Or what do you know you need to do right now? The tactic of the enemy is to have you focused on so many things that you get overwhelmed and give up. Joshua in the next chapter focused only on Jericho. You, too, need to focus on one thing.

If it’s a career, that’s coming your way, maybe your focus now should prep for your interview. As you take the first step, God will give you the next one. And before you know it you will have stepped fully into your promised land. God orders your steps because you are righteous. Don’t try to figure out the entire picture. Just focus on the piece you can see right now. The puzzle will come together, just take the first step.

Conclusion.

When you are in times of transition, it is important to move in faith and be cautious. Allow God to lead you every step of the way. And also focus on His promises. After all. What you focus on, you empower. Don’t get tempted to go back because what is ahead of you is bigger than you. Instead, lean on God and allow Him to give you the strategies you need. He already has been where you are going. And when you depend on Him, you will emerge victorious. Let the negative thoughts go and change your confessions. Focus, because you are birthing your promise. It gets worse before it gets better.
