How To Overcome Hindrances To Your Breakthrough.

Estimated reading time: 13 minutes

Have there been moments in your life where you caused hindrances to your breakthrough? Breakthrough is something as Christians and human beings are meant to experience. This is because God takes us from glory to glory and we are not meant to stay stuck in one place. When God created us, He made provision for all our needs. Therefore, human beings were created last. God wanted ham beings to have everything they ever needed to live a full life. However, because sin, lack, and limitation came in and because of the curse that came in, it meant humans had to toil to cater to their needs.

Fortunately, Jesus came to destroy the curse of sin and death through the finished work of the cross. This means that because we were reconciled with God, we have access to His provision. Unfortunately, there are moments when we experience limitation because the enemy always wants Christians to get frustrated so as to give up on their destiny and stay stuck forever. Maybe you are experiencing financial constraints or just not having the opportunities you need to catapult you to the next level.

This can be very frustrating and in such moments, it is very easy to lose hope and give up entirely. God does not want us to remain stuck in one state forever. He wants us to move from glory to glory as that is who He is. And that’s why He makes provision for us to experience breakthroughs in the areas where we are experiencing lack and limitation. But sometimes there are things that hinder us from experiencing breakthroughs and getting our promises.

Maybe you know for sure that it is your season for a breakthrough, but the breakthrough has yet to manifest and you now want to know why this is so. This is a word for you. Let us look at the hindrances to your breakthrough.

Hindrances to your breakthrough.

Complaining

How To Overcome Hindrances To Your Breakthrough.

Reading the story of the Israelites from when God delivered them from oppression to finally getting to Canaan, we see that there was a generation that died in the wilderness. A journey that was supposed to take them 11 days took them 40 years and when we read the Pentateuch we see why. The Israelites complained a lot. They quickly and easily forgot God’s mighty power and the great miracles He performed.

God ensured that all the plagues in Egypt did not affect them while they were in Goshen, which was in Egypt. That alone should have been enough for them to know that God would cater to all their needs. I mean, they had proof as they had experienced His protection firsthand.

Next, God protected them by parting the Red Sea and destroying the Egyptian army. These people were surrounded and God still rescued them and, in fact, set them free. Wow!

Can you imagine that even after all that, these guys complained when they could not get water to drink because they were thirsty? God did such miraculous deeds, and here they were complaining because they were thirsty. Quite frankly, that was something small to God, considering He rescued them from their enemies without them having to fight. But we see God yet again provide for them despite their complaints. This went on for a while. Whenever the Israelites would hit a dead-end, their first response was to complain. Their complaints were part of the reason an entire generation, except for Joshua and Caleb did not get to Canaan.

It is very easy to judge them, but before you do, let me ask you this: how many times have you found yourself complaining and losing trust in God because you are facing what seems grand at the moment? How many times, because of frustration, have you allowed doubt to creep in and cause you to complain to God, forgetting all that He has ever done for you? The Bible says that we should remove the logs in our eyes first before we can remove the speck in our neighbor’s face. Could the fact that you are complaining be the reason you have not experienced a breakthrough? Remember, God was with the Israelites throughout the wilderness season. Never did He leave them. This is the same for you. God is with you in that situation you are facing today.

Lack of sensitivity and discernment

A breakthrough from God does not come looking like a breakthrough. Sometimes God will give us seed and when we tend to it then the breakthrough comes. When you lack discernment, you could experience hindrances to your breakthrough. Other times, God will use the very things that are around us to get us the breakthrough and provision we need. Unfortunately, when we lack discernment, we cannot be sensitive to know what God is using to get us out of our predicament. The widow of Zarephath had oil and flour that was enough to make one meal for both her and her son. And after that, the only thing they were waiting for was death. Her ability to discern and do exactly what Elijah told her was what led her to have provision for the entire duration of the drought.

Eventually, the brook dried up because of the drought. Then God spoke to him: “Get up and go to Zarephath in Sidon and live there. I’ve instructed a woman who lives there, a widow, to feed you.” So he got up and went to Zarephath. As he came to the entrance of the village, he met a woman, a widow, gathering firewood.

He asked her, “Please, would you bring me a little water in a jug? I need a drink.” As she went to get it, he called out, “And while you’re at it, would you bring me something to eat?” She said, “I swear, as surely as your God lives, I don’t have so much as a biscuit. I have a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a bottle; you found me scratching together just enough firewood to make the last meal for my son and me. After we eat it, we’ll die.”

Elijah said to her, “Don’t worry about a thing. Go ahead and do what you’ve said. But first, make a small biscuit for me and bring it back here. Then go ahead and make a meal from what’s left for you and your son. This is the word of the God of Israel: ‘The jar of flour will not run out and the bottle of oil will not become empty before God sends rain on the land and ends this drought.’” And she went right off and did it, did just as Elijah asked. And it turned out as he said—daily food for her and her family. The jar of meal didn’t run out and the bottle of oil didn’t become empty: God’s promise was fulfilled to the letter, exactly as Elijah had delivered it! 1 Kings 17:7‭-‬16 MSG

The widow’s discernment gave her the provision she needed. How many times have you failed to discern the opportunity that God was bringing your way? Maybe the said opportunity came in seed form and what was required was for you to tend it so that it can grow. And because you did not, your season of visitation passed you by. Has your lack of sensitivity caused hindrances to your breakthrough?

Lack of faith and disobedience

Then we set out from Horeb and headed for the Amorite hill country, going through that huge and frightening wilderness that you’ve had more than an eyeful of by now—all under the command of God, our God—and finally arrived at Kadesh Barnea. There I told you, “You’ve made it to the Amorite hill country that God, our God, is giving us. Look, God, your God, has placed this land as a gift before you. Go ahead and take it now. God, the God-of-Your-Fathers, promised it to you.

Don’t be afraid. Don’t lose heart.” But then you all came to me and said, “Let’s send some men on ahead to scout out the land for us and bring back a report on the best route to take and the kinds of towns we can expect to find.” That seemed like a good idea to me, so I picked twelve men, one from each tribe. They set out, climbing through the hills. The spies came to the Eshcol Valley and looked it over. They took samples of the produce of the land and brought them back to us, saying,

“It’s a good land that God, our God, is giving us!” But then you weren’t willing to go up. You rebelled against God, your God’s plain word. You complained in your tents: “God hates us. He hauled us out of Egypt in order to dump us among the Amorites—a death sentence for sure! How can we go up? We’re trapped in a dead-end. Our brothers took all the wind out of our sails, telling us, ‘The people are bigger and stronger than we are; their cities are huge, their defenses massive—we even saw Anakite giants there!’” I tried to relieve your fears:

“Don’t be terrified of them. God, your God, is leading the way; he’s fighting for you. You saw with your own eyes what he did for you in Egypt; you saw what he did in the wilderness, how God, your God, carried you, as a father carries his child, carried you the whole way until you arrived here. But now that you’re here, you won’t trust God, your God—this same God who goes ahead of you in your travels to scout out a place to pitch camp, a fire by night, and a cloud by day to show you the way to go.”

When God heard what you said, he exploded in anger. He swore, “Not a single person of this evil generation is going to get so much as a look at the good land that I promised to give to your parents. Not one—except for Caleb son of Jephunneh. He’ll see it. I’ll give him and his descendants the land he walked on because he was all for following God, heart, and soul.” Deuteronomy 1:19‭-‬36 MSG

From this passage, we see how a lack of faith prevented an entire generation from getting into Canaan. This should sober us up to realize the importance of having faith. Disobedience can also hinder your breakthrough. When you feel God leading you down a certain path, follow it because your breakthrough will most definitely come in your obedience.

Hastiness

Hastiness can be one of the hindrances to your breakthrough. When you move too fast, the said thing can cause harm to you or cannot mature. God never wants you to move ahead of Him. He wants you to walk alongside Him. You will get the full reward for your breakthrough. He says that He is never slow in keeping His promises. Rather, He in His mercies does so to keep us from stumbling. Hastiness can lead to open doors that are not what God intended for us. Could it be the reason the breakthrough you were expecting did not come was that you were hasty?

Double-mindedness and a lack of awareness

God tells us in His Word that when we are double-minded we can never receive what we ask from God because our minds are tossed from side to side. Double-mindedness is a part of the hindrances to your breakthrough. This is because it proves you don’t know what you want. God says that we have not because ask not. And when you don’t know what you want, you will not ask effectively.

Also, God can never bless indecisiveness. What kind of breakthrough do you want? General prayers yield general results. Are you doing the thing that will yield the breakthrough that you need? If it’s a career in a specific field, do you have the skills required? What are you doing now to make room for your breakthrough?

It’s important to know what you want and make specific requests. The Israelites asked God for deliverance from oppression and it was their cry that cause God to remember the covenant He made with Abraham.( Ref Exodus 2:24-25)

Now what?

These 3 things are not conclusive, but they are some things that hinder us from experiencing breakthroughs. Fortunately for us, God is the God of second chances and He always has a redemptive plan. And we can always experience the breakthrough we need because God never tires to give us chance after chance.

How then can we overcome the hindrances to our breakthrough?

Repentance

The first thing that you should do when you realize that there have been hindrances to your breakthrough is to repent. For you to experience the very thing you need, turn away from the things that are preventing your provision and deliverance. Ask God to forgive you for complaining and being hasty. He is merciful and just to forgive. And also He always wants to forgive us. Fortunately for you and me, there is a legal right for Him to forgive us and that is through the Blood of Jesus Christ. God wants to extend His grace and compassion to you. And for Him to do that, you will need to repent and ask Him to forgive you for the part you have played, delaying your breakthrough. When you repent, you break off the hindrances to your breakthrough.

Ask the Holy Spirit for the gift of Discernment

Maybe the reason you have not experienced breakthroughs is that you failed to discern when an opportunity came your way. Don’t worry. As the Holy Spirit, to help you remain sensitive so that you can know the next time God is sending an opportunity, whether it is in seed form or whatever form it is in. Never despise the small beginnings because just like a mustard tree grows from a small seed, so will your breakthrough grow from the seed given to you by God. God will breathe on it and you will experience exceedingly, and abundantly from the very thing. Keep pushing because your breakthrough is in it. The Holy Spirit will help you avoid the hindrances to your breakthrough.

Count your blessings

Sometimes in order for you to experience breakthroughs, go back and thank God for the breakthroughs He did for you before. Remember that God inhabits in the praises of His people and where God is His glory there is too. His glory brings a breakthrough.

Praise God for everything He has done for you. You can praise Him through prayer or just through a song. Break out in a dance. The fact that He did it before means that He will do it again.

Get a Revelation of who God is.

Sometimes the Revelation of who God is is what will bring you victory. This is because every time you get a fresh Revelation about God, faith rises within you. And when faith rises, you get the strength to move mountains and command the valleys to rise. When you understand God is the provider, you will not get to where you are complaining when difficult situations arise because you know that He will do it for you the same way He did it for others.

Recognizing that God is good will causes you to trust Him in seasons where nothing makes sense. In so doing, you create an atmosphere of breakthrough. Gaining an understanding of who God is for you will unlock realms of provision you never knew before. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. This fear comes from an understanding of who God is. And since this fear brings wisdom, you will get solutions that will create a realm of breakthroughs, thus breaking the realm of limitation from your life.

Conclusion

Breakthrough is and should be your portion, so don’t be afraid to go for it. Also, be aware of the little foxes that hinder your breakthrough and instead focus on the keys above. God gives us solutions to overcome our Hindrances and all these keys are found in the word of God. Make time for His word and solutions to your problems will become a norm for you.

God never created you to remain in the same place forever. You have to get to your promised land. Therefore, let go of the things that are hindering your breakthrough and step into what God has prepared for you.
