Estimated reading time: 10 minutes
How bad do you want your miracle? We all want to have our prayers answered so badly. But have we stopped to ask ourselves the cost of our answered prayers? Will you go after it with all your heart and not give up no matter what?

Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately, he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
Mark 10:46-52 NIV
Bartimeus wanted Jesus to heal Him, and He knew He had to get Jesus’ attention. He kept shouting for Jesus to have mercy on him. The people who wanted him to keep quiet did not faze him. He did not even care how people would view him. He went after his miracle, regardless. This got Jesus’ attention, and He beckoned for him to come to Him.
Bartimeus left his cloak and ran to Jesus, and when Jesus asked Him what He wanted, he did not hesitate and was very specific. Do you know what it is you want? Are you specific? If Jesus came to you today and asked you what you want Him to do for you, do you have a definite answer? Bartimeus was not willing to let his moment of regaining sight pass him by. He was persistent. Another example is the Syrophoenician woman whose daughter was delivered from demonic bondage. She did not take no for an answer, even after Jesus told her that His ministry at the time was only for the Jews. Her answer was epic. She told Jesus that even dogs eat the crumbs at the children’s table. She basically told Jesus she would go nowhere until she got her miracle and He healed her daughter.
Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter. “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.” She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon was gone.
Mark 7:24-30 NIV
Do you see how great her faith was? She knew Jesus could heal her daughter and would not leave until she got her miracle. Again, how badly do you want your miracle? How far are you willing to go to obtain your miracle? Will you keep going even when everything around you tells you to stop? Will you persist amid adversity and closed doors?
Tips on how to go after your miracle
Prayer
Paul told Timothy to wage war with the promises spoken over his life. We already know that God has spoken amazing things over our lives. Also, we know God has told us that when we pray he hears us. This is clear in the book of Daniel. When the angel came with an answer to Daniel, the first thing he said was that God heard him the first time he set his mind to pray. This gives us confidence that when we pray, God hears us and wants to answer our prayers.
It is in prayer that you can state your request to God. While it’s true God knows what you need, HE wants a partnership with you and this comes from you communing with Him. He delights in your every prayer because you are His precious possession and His child. It is the prayers we don’t pray that don’t get answered. If you want to have your prayers answered, then it is time to open up your mouth and pray. God is ready to listen, will you ask Him? If you know you are the one hindering your miracle by lack of prayer, would you pray? Your answer depends on how badly you want your miracle.
Jesus tells you to ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and you will find and when you knock, the door will be opened unto you. The goal in prayer is even as you commune with God, you can state your requests.
Persistence
In Luke 18, Jesus tells His disciples a parable on the power of persistence. There was a widow who wanted justice, and so she went to an unjust judge. The judge did not want to grant her justice, but because of her persistence, she wore him out and he caved and finally; the widow was granted justice from her accuser.
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ “For some time he refused. But finally, he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’ ”
And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
Luke 18:1-8 NIV
Our situation is unique though because we have a Just God who wants to grant us justice and so when we persist He will answer. God tells us that when we seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him. Our persistence will bear fruit and He tells us He will quickly rush to our rescue. Remember, God’s timing is not ours, as a thousand years to Him is like a day. Be patient and in due time you will reap your harvest. Do not faint or lose hope.
Be specific
When Jesus asked Bartimaeus what he wanted, he did not hesitate. He told Jesus he wanted to receive his sight, and Jesus gave him that. Let me ask you this, are you specific about what you want? If it is a financial breakthrough, do you have a plan for how you will use the money? Do you know why you want your miracle? Have you given Jesus your specific request? Philippians 4 tells us not to worry about anything but in everything with prayer and supplication, make our request known to God.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
So being specific is key to receiving your answer. Be very clear on what you want God to do. General prayers yield general results. And specific prayers yield specific results. When Jesus went around healing people, He always asked them what they wanted. It might have seemed redundant for Him to ask that. But God will work with what you give Him. He could multiply the two fish and five loaves of bread because that is what was handed to Him. When you tell Him what you need, that is when He will do the exceedingly and even direct your steps.
Praise
God inhabits the praises of His people. Throughout the Bible, we have seen people and a nation get delivered because they praised God through their wars. King Jehoshaphat got the victory from the Moabites and ammonites through praise. Just picture that, you have people coming to attack you; you have no skilled army. That must have been scary, but because they followed the instruction to praise, God granted them victory and caused the enemies to fight each other instead. So if you have hit the wall, just turn to praise and you will see the hand of God in your life.
The answer you are waiting for is on its way. But I just want to challenge you to push as hard as you can and keep at it until you get your breakthrough. Pray until something happens.
Conclusion
How bad do you want your miracle? Are you willing to look foolish before people receive it? I mean, the widow who went to the judge day in and day out for her vindication must have looked ridiculous in front of her friends. Maybe there were people around her telling her to stop wasting her time. But she still persisted. And you know what? She received her vindication. This is a very clear sign of someone who so badly wanted her miracle. Will you do the same? Will you persist so that you can see the walls crumble and you get the very thing you have been praying for?
You know, it is easy to think that God does not want to answer your prayer because of how much you have had to contend for it. But often times it is not God withholding from you. Rather, it is because He wants to perfect your faith and also refine you. The process is for your good. Waiting builds your faith muscle. The waiting makes you reflect Jesus to the world more. And it gives you a better understanding of who God is.
The more you get to know about God, the more effective your prayers will be. You will learn to pray targeted and very specific prayers. And in doing so, it will be easier for you to hit the mark. Also, it is important to tie your prayers and your miracle to scripture. God honors His word, and He is faithful to fulfill it. But if you want to know what God’s word is, you need to read the Bible.
Engage with God through the word and see Him work in your life. The word is alive, and it contains God’s promises for you concerning your miracle. Your miracle and breakthrough are on the way. Keep holding on. Don’t quit because God sees you, hears you, and knows what you are going through.
The Holy Spirit wants to intercede for you with groanings that no man can understand. Allow Him to do so by yielding to Him. He is your helper, after all.
And always remember this. Do not grow weary in doing good, as you will reap a reward if you faint not. Even as you wait, wait actively and be expectant that the God who sees will answer you and come through for you. He is for you and He truly cares for you. Make it your mission to cast your burdens unto Him and cry out to Him for your miracle and in due time, He will make it happen. Be blessed. Check out this blog post on did you really hear from God?
