Okay, maybe let’s first get this one thing straight before we get to the meat of the content. God’s Redirection will always be for your good. Granted, there will be some not-so-good stuff that will happen along the way. But the reality is that the destination will always be glorious. And this is because God has always had a vision for your life since the beginning of time. This vision was always your best and highest self. So when He is redirecting you, He is doing so because He wants you to get back to that destined path. Now that we have settled that, let’s get right into the keys.
Write the vision down
In the book of Habakkuk chapter 2: 2-3, God tells Habakkuk to write the vision down and make it plain.
And then God answered: โWrite this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision message is a witness pointing to whatโs coming. It aches for the comingโit can hardly wait! And it doesnโt lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. Itโs on its way. It will come right on time. Habakkuk 2:2โญ-โฌ3 MSG
And in this scripture, there is a line in verse 2 that says to make it plain, so that he who runs may go with it. The reason for making the vision plain becomes clear in Isaiah 30:8
Go now, write it on a tablet for them, inscribe it on a scroll, that for the days to come it may be an everlasting witness. Isaiah 30:8 NIV
In writing the vision you become clear on what it is you want. You can articulate exactly where you are headed. The goal of writing the vision down also helps you find your path back in the right direction when you veer off.ย
This is why God gives us promises, to begin with. He knows that the waiting and transition seasons can often be challenging. That’s Why He gives us something to hold on to when everything around us screams at us telling us to stop what we are doing. The written vision serves as your compass and also helps you understand how to get to your goals. When you make up your mind that you are going to do XYZ, you will do everything required to align yourself with the said goal.ย
Benefits of writing your goals.
Vividly describing your goals in written form is strongly associated with goal success, and people who very vividly describe or picture their goals are anywhere from 1.2 to 1.4 times more likely to accomplish their goals than people who donโt. Thatโs a pretty big difference in goal achievement just from writing your goals on a piece of paper.
Writing things down happens on two levels: external storage and encoding. External storage is easy to explain: youโre storing the information contained in your goal in a location. But thereโs another more profound phenomenon happening: encoding. Encoding is the biological process by which the things we perceive travel to our brainโs hippocampus where theyโre analyzed. From there, decisions are made about what gets stored in our long-term memory and, in turn, what gets discarded. Writing improves that encoding process. In other words, when you write it down it has a much greater chance of being remembered. So write down your vision if you want to gain clarity. It is important to note that as you write your goal, you need to be as detailed as possible. Write down even the most trivial things.
Healing
Sometimes for you to gain clarity, you need to start your healing journey. It is ridiculous for us to assume that the redirection did not hurt you. After all, no one likes to leave their place of comfort. Again, there are things that as you are going through the redirection, God will prune from your life. As you know, for a tree to bear more fruit there has to be pruning involved. ย And to have things taken from your life or you experience separation and isolation, it hurts.
This is why you need to go through the healing process. It could look like, you talking to God about it. God wants to heal you. His healing power is accessible to you too. But for you to receive it, you need to admit that you are hurting. Coming to God in vulnerability. And admitting to Him that you are hurting, will help you heal. As you heal, you will discover God, who He is, and in turn who you are. Your redirection always leads to your God-ordained purpose. For you to discover the purpose, you have to be whole
Closeness to God
The fact that God is not the author of confusion means that when you are in Him you will gain clarity. God never wants you to be confused about your calling. Granted, you might not understand it, but as long as you are rooted in Him, you will find your way. We know that God never gives us the entire blueprint of our journey This is because it will not require faith from your end when you have the full picture. He will give you just enough to get you moving. This is why He says that He is a lamp to your feet. A lamp only exudes light enough to show you your next step.
But also, God could give you the destination and ask you to trust Him to lead you in the process. An example of this is Joseph. God gave Joseph a dream that his brothers would bow before him. Now this was the end goal. But, God did not tell Joseph the process. Chances are he would have said no. After all, who wants to be sold into slavery, separated from his family, and thrown into prison? These are all the things Joseph had to go through before being elevated to his position.
The reason God gives people the promise is to give them hope in the process. This also helps you avoid doing what everyone else is doing to get by. The promise will anchor you in moments when you feel like giving up. If you are going through such, today I would like to encourage you to embrace the process. Do not compare yourself with other people. Trust God in the process and do not allow the fact that you are in the process to cloud your judgment and lead you to forfeit your promise. One thing you should always know is that God will take you to your promise.
The way He gets you there will be different and unexpected. But the truth is that He will get you there. So lean on Him and trust Him. If you are finding it difficult to trust Him, borrow a leaf from Abraham’s story. See how God guided him every step of the way. Just do what you feel God is telling you to do. Remember a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. Do what you can now. But for you to know what you need to do now, closeness to God is key.
Closeness to God will be experienced through prayer. As you fellowship with God through prayer, your spiritual senses will be alert and you will be able to hear from Him. Worship and reading the word is also another way that will help you draw close to God. Reading the Bible activates the spiritual antennae which leads to closeness with God. God is Spirit and for you to hear Him, your spirit needs to be alert. In your closeness to God, He will reveal mysteries to you and also give you the clarity you need. He is your creator, He has the solution and He knows the way to get you there.
Overcoming FOMO
The fear of missing out leads to confusion in your life. This is because in your pursuit to do the next trendy thing, you will miss out on the very path that God has for you. Your purpose is not found in the next trendy thing, or the in thing. Your purpose is found in what God has for you. And your overcoming FOMO will get you clear on the path He has for you. You don’t have to keep chasing the next big thing or a great idea. Not all great ideas are from God and are meant for you.
Silence and stillness
How will you gain clarity when you always allow outside voices to speak to you? Do you know why most people in the Bible like Moses were able to hear from God? They spent time away from the crowd. You will also need to do the same thing. Spending time alone will help you gain clarity. This is because as you silence the outside voice, your inner man comes alive. The Holy Spirit who is your helper is clearly heard when you are in solitude. He is always speaking. However, for you to hear Him, you will need to be still and be comfortable in the silence. As you spend time alone, He will show you the path that you need to follow. His voice can be trusted and His way will lead you to the path that God has for you.
Solitude will also help you limit distractions, therefore focusing on things that matter. Again the more you focus on things that matter, the more you gain clarity on what your purpose is.
Read the Bible
The Bible contains instructions that can help you gain clarity. Daniel through the scrolls was able to discern the season they were in. It was while reading the scrolls that he realized that the 70 years of exile were up. And through that, he was able to gain the clarity to fast and inquire on the next step from God. You see if he had not been keen to read the scrolls and see what God had said about them, he would not have even known that their time in exile was up.
You have the Holy Spirit as your helper. As you read the Bible, the Holy Spirit will cause scripture to come alive in your life. And as He does that, an idea of what to do in your situation will come alive therefore you will gain clarity. Have you had moments where while reading the Bible, a solution to a problem came up? Or maybe an idea of what to do in your redirection came up?
You see, God’s redirection will; be backed by God’s solution. God never leaves anyone high or dry when He redirects them. God will never leave you hanging after He redirects you. He also never leaves you to figure things out on your own. He will help you every step of the way. But for you to have the solutions that will help you in the process, you will have to be consistent in reading the Bible.
Find a community that will guide you
Sometimes having a community can help you gain clarity. Sometimes you can ask someone to help you decipher if you are on the right path. This is where mentors come in. Now don’t get me wrong, there are moments that God can ask you to do something that others will not even understand and in this case, following God’s voice will be the way to go. But sometimes having people to guide you along the way will help. The Bible does say that in the book of Proverbs too.
Where there is no guidance, people fall. But in the abundance of counselors, there is victory. Proverbs 11:14
Without consultation, plans are frustrated. But with many counselors, there is victory. Proverbs 15:22
Prepare plans by consultation. And make war by wise guidance. Proverbs 20:18
Listen to counsel and accept discipline. That you may be wise, the rest of your days. Many plans are in a man’s heart. But the counsel of the Lord will stand. Proverbs 19:20-21
Dream with God
You know, it’s funny how oftentimes we think that God does not want to include us in His plans. God always wants a partnership with you and me. God wants you to bring your plans to Him. He wants to direct your steps. Why not also dream with Him? What I mean by this is, why don’t you write down what your ideal day will look like in the promised land? And give it to Him.
The way that this will help you gain clarity is because you will also get to see the viability of what is on your mind. As you do that you will have a clear mind because you will have removed the congestion in your mind Articulating your thoughts helps you gain clarity. So why not try it?
Conclusion
Anytime you want to gain clarity on your redirection, chances are you have not been doing what you are meant to do. You know God did not call you to do everything. You cannot expect God to bless something He did not call you to. Maybe you feel like you have been living a confused life in the past. Could it be that God is calling you to draw closer to Him today? You see, the more you spend time with God, the more you will gain clarity. This is because He will reveal to you the things He wants you to do and how He wants you to do them.
Look at Elijah for example, when the brook in Kidron Valley dried up, he found a solution in the stillness. It was through spending time with God that he was able to discern God’s voice when he told him to go to Zarephath for his provision.
Had he lacked the sensitivity, he would have probably died in the wilderness. Do not allow your wilderness season in the redirection to go to waste. Spend time with God. Lean on Him and allow Him to lead you in the way you should go. The truth is that He loves you so much and does not want you to remain stuck in that season of confusion. He wants to show you why He is leading you where He is leaving you And as you spend time with Him, you will learn to trust Him and this will wade off any confusion and doubt you might have.
