3 Ways God Can Help You Achieve Financial Freedom

Estimated reading time: 14 minutes

Do you know God desires you to achieve financial freedom? Have you been struggling with the thought that God wants you to achieve financial freedom? Then this blog is for you. Maybe the fact that prosperity has been abused in the church is the reason you are not open to that thought. But today I want you to be open-minded. After all, knowledge brings revelation which brings freedom. If you are ready to start your journey to financial freedom, then keep on reading.

Myths about financial freedom that Christians struggle with.

God has promised to take care of me so I don’t need to care about money.

God wants to take care of you. But He also wants to do so by giving you the creativity and wisdom to create wealth. You see after God created Adam, He told him to till the land and take care of it. Therefore, while God provided the resources, it was still Adam’s job to take care of it. And even when God blessed the Israelites in Deuteronomy 8:18, He reminded them through Moses that He gives them the power to create wealth. You see, God will take care of you by giving you the wisdom to gain financial freedom. Your walk with God includes you being an active participant. And while there are seasons in the valley where God can take care of you, His goal is to equip you so that you can take care of yourself.

Even the Bible reminds us that when the Israelites got to Canaan, God stopped providing manna for them. It was time for them to go out there and work to cater to their needs.

10 On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover. 11 The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain. 12 The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate the produce of Canaan. Joshua 5

Do not confuse God’s provision in the wilderness as the way He wants you to always live. No, He wants you to be His hands and feet and be able to take care of others too. How can you do that when you don’t have enough? After all, Jesus took on your poverty so that He can give you riches. And again He came so that you can experience abundance.

God does not want me to become rich because I will become conceited.

With wealth comes pride and other sins as well. But that does not mean God does not desire you to achieve financial freedom. And again, going back to the Israelites, if God did not desire for you and me to achieve financial freedom, He would have left them in the wilderness forever. And again, remember how God prospered Abraham to the point he had more than enough that he became a threat to the Amalekites? It is in God’s design for you to achieve financial freedom. And simply because He loves you as His child. Of course, there is a process He will take you through to refine you and make you understand He is your provider. But only if you struggle with pride and selfishness.

God wants your life to bring Him glory. It is through you that others get drawn to Him. There is nothing greater about poverty. You can’t meet your needs and also cannot be a part of kingdom advancement in your finances when you are financially challenged. Jesus wanted to deal with the rich young ruler’s heart and that was why He asked him to give everything up and follow him. But He did not ask Joseph of Arimathea to give up his wealth because he had not made wealth his idol. God blessed Abraham with more than enough. Why would He bless Abraham if He did not desire for you to be rich?

The Bible acts as a guide to show us who God is and what is available to us. In the same way He blessed Abraham, He will bless you. But the question is, do you believe it? And below are some scriptures that will help you see that:

Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

1 Timothy 6:17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

Ecclesiastes 5:18-19 Here is what I have seenIt is good and fitting for one to eat and drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor in which he toils under the sun all the days of his life which God gives him; for it is his heritage. 19 As for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, and given him the power to eat of it, to receive his heritage and rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God.

I want you to know that God will deal with the pride and every sin that might cause wealth to destroy you, but His ultimate plan is for you to experience financial freedom.

Financial freedom is being a multi-millionaire/billionaire

One thing you and I should know is that God gives different talents to different people. And He will bless each one according to the measure He bestowed upon us. Obviously, desiring wealth is not bad. But what is the motive? Do you want wealth because you believe it is God’s portion for you or do you want it because others have it as well?

Financial freedom simply means having more than enough that you can be a blessing to others as well. And that will look different to different people. But the goal is to ensure that you are comfortable, have no debt, and can take care of emergencies should they arise. Again, God blessed Abraham in such a way that when Lot was captured, he had enough resources and labor to rescue him. That is what God desires for you too.

God wants you to leave an inheritance to your grandchildren. After all, as His child, you have access to His wisdom. And we know from the Bible that wise people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren.

What are the 3 ways that God can help you achieve financial freedom?

Wisdom.

According to Wikipedia, wisdom is sapience, or sagacity is the ability to contemplate and act productively using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight. And with this definition in mind, we see that wisdom comes from using the knowledge gained or even your experiences. God gave Joseph the wisdom to use the experience he had in interpreting dreams to become 2nd in command. Not only that the Bible also tells us that our gifts will make room for us before kings and queens. God wants to help you achieve financial freedom. But He will do it His way and not yours, Why do I say that?

God uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise. Who would have thought that interpreting a dream would lead to financial freedom and wealth? It happened to Joseph. God can use your craft to elevate you to places you never thought possible. In the era we live in, we have seen people achieve financial freedom on YouTube by doing pretty much anything. And it makes little sense to the generation before us. This is what I mean when I say that God will use wisdom to help you achieve financial freedom. And the cool thing is that if you desire wisdom, you can ask God and He will give it to you.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Allow God to show you how you can use your experience, knowledge, and talent to achieve financial freedom. God has uncommon ways He would like to use. After all, your elevation will bring Him glory and draw people to Him. Another thing to note is that through this strategy God proves to us that He will use what He has already given to us to give us wealth. Don’t focus on what you don’t have. What you have is more than enough. After Jesus helped Peter catch that many fish, don’t you think Peter’s family experienced an influx in their finances?

What you have is more than enough. That is why you should not be jealous of what other people have. Remember this, comparison is the thief of joy.

God used the jar of oil that the prophet’s widow had to help her achieve financial freedom. Imagine that. God will use what you already have to help you.

2 Kings 4:1-7

A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”

So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”

Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”

So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.”

And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”

3 Practical ways God can help you achieve financial wisdom through wisdom.

  • God can equip you with the wisdom to impress your interviewees and help you get your dream job.
  • Through the use of your preexisting knowledge and experience, God can enable you to start a podcast or a platform that solves an existing problem thereby translating to clients and financial freedom.
  • God can give you the wisdom to buy shares in a start-up that though going public can lead to your financial freedom.
  • God can give you the wisdom to learn how to budget effectively

Wisdom is found in Jesus. And through your spending time with Him and reading His word, He will give you the wisdom you need to achieve your financial goals and get out of poverty for good.

Divine Connections is another way God can help you achieve financial freedom

According to Gabriel Adunmade divine connection is the supernatural act of God whereby He links up two or more people together for the purpose of fulfilling their destinies. In simple terms these two people God links would never have otherwise met had it not been for God.

Divine connections come in different ways. Joseph needed the Pharaoh’s butler to speak on his behalf and introduce him to Pharaoh. And through that Joseph received his breakthrough and became second-in-command. (Read Genesis 40 & 41). Ruth needed Naomi’s help so that she could position herself to find favor with Boaz who became her husband. Esther needed Mordecai to get into the palace. She also needed Hegai’s advice so as to win King Ahasuerus’s favor.

Elijah needed the widow of Zarephath so as not to starve to death during the 3-year famine. The Shunamite woman needed Elisha to receive her miracle of a child. And later on, she needed Gehazi to speak for her so that she could receive restoration of her land.

Child of God, there are people God has set as your destiny helpers. They may not look like you would expect, but as long as it is God-breathed, that connection will lead you to where you need to go.

How do you position yourself for divine connection?

  • Staying rooted in Christ is key if you want to identify your divine connection aka destiny helper. When you are rooted in Christ, He will ordain your steps and you will not miss it.
  • Being obedient- Because God will act in uncommon and unorthodox ways, it is imperative that you are obedient to His leading. His instructions will not make sense. But as long as you follow them, you will receive your breakthrough. Who would have known a simple act of interpreting a prisoner’s dream would lead to Joseph’s elevation?
  • Don’t lose hope. It took 2 years before the divine connection between Joseph and Pharaoh’s butler yielded fruit. Who knew Mordecai, who raised Esther would be her ticket to the throne? God has a set time for your visitation. That is why you need to exercise patience. When the time is right, God will make it happen. (Isaiah 60:22)

Stewardship

Stewardship simply put is to manage resources or anything on another person’s behalf. It also means exercising dominion over God’s given possessions. You see through faithful stewardship you can achieve financial freedom. And to explain it perfectly let’s look at the parable of talents.

The Parable of the Talents

14 “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. 15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money

19 Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’

23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24 He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ 26 But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed?

27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming, I should have received what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Application

The servant who had stewarded his 5 talents well received a double portion. And not only that what belonged to the one with 1 talent was given to him too. No wonder the Bible tells us that when we are faithful with little more will be added to us. And again when you manage other people’s resources, God will give you yours. Because of how Jacob was when handling Laban’s sheep and cattle, God gave him an increase. Never discount the power of faithfulness, consistency, and diligence. These 3 are powerful skills that when utilized God will add more to you.

God will bless and add to what you already have. If you cannot steward what He has given you now, He will not add more. After all, what’s the point when it will all go to waste? Wherever you are right now, I want to encourage you to be diligent and faithful. Remember, God is faithful and He rewards faithfulness. Joseph had to interpret the prisoner’s dream before God could trust him to interpret Pharaoh’s dream. Stewardship of the little is your training ground.

Conclusion

God wants to see you live an abundant life. After all, Jesus came so that you can have life and have it in abundance. And again, remember God also gives wealth. After all, He says that His blessings bring wealth and not sorrow. And to top it up God tells us that He will do exceedingly, abundantly, above and beyond what we could ever think or ask according to the power at work within us. Never doubt that God wants you to achieve financial freedom. He is for you and wishes the very best for you.
