How To Trust God In The Unknown

Estimated reading time: 12 minutes

I have been on this journey of walking on a path that will make me a statistic according to societal standards. Yet no matter how much I try to listen to logic ,deep down there is a voice that encourages me to keep going. And I find myself constantly going over my choices wondering if I can trust that my case will be different. That I will not be just another statistic but that I might actually defy the odds. And so here I am learning to trust God in the Unknown. And choosing to say yes to a path that might make me a laughing stalk.

Let me ask you this, has God been calling you to a path that should it fail will make you yet another statistic? Are you scared of the endless and dreadfully I told you so? And you having to go back with the tail between your legs? Well today I have a beautiful word of encouragement if you are in this season. Join me as we unpack this..How To Overcome The Fear Of The Unknown.(Opens in a new browser tab)

Why does God allow us to journey through the path of the unknown?

Itโ€™s funny how we think that Godโ€™s path will only involve something new. Sometimes His path could look like you defying the odds. Succeeding in the path that others failed at. You breaking ground so others can walk on this path too. And the reason for that?

1. Well, for started God knows you have the ability to defy the odds.

It is imperative that we recognize that God being our creator knows our potential. He knows what you are capable of. He will not just throw you in there blind. Think about Gideon in Judges 6. God knew that Gideon had the ability to lead the Israelites into war and have them defeat the Midianites ending their 7 years of oppression. And that God is still your God. He wants you to get to discover a version of you you wouldnโ€™t if you remained stuck. You already have it in you to defy the odds.

2. He also wants you to get to know Him.

There are seasons when God draws us to Himself by allowing us to walk in paths that lack clarity. Not because He is punishing us but being our Creator He knows how best to get us to know Him in am even deeper way.

3. God cam also allow you to walk in the unknown so you can help set others free.

Unfortunately our society has given us rules that sometimes donโ€™t even serve us. Think about Jesus for a moment. When He walked on earth, He constantly defied the rules set by the Pharisees that held them back. Am example was how they became slaves of the Sabbath so much so that it was a crime to heal on the Sabbath day. So could if be God is walking you on the path of the unknown because He wants to break off the religious mindset off of some people? Or maybe just open the perspective of others who are bound by traditions?

4. God can also have you walk in the path of the unknown because He wants to redeem that narrative.

Maybe it is true that walking on that path could make you yet another statistic. But what if this time God says the outcome will be different? . Remember that even a tree once It is cut can rise again. At the scent of water it can sprout. And dead bones? Remember Ezekiel 36? Dead bones came to life again. Nothing is too far gone for redemption. So maybe God could be using you to bring hope in other peopleโ€™s lives again. So you can reveal God as the one who restores, redeems, heals and transforms.3 CLEAR SIGNS THAT YOU SHOULD EMBRACE A NEW PATH.(Opens in a new browser tab)

But knowing the why can still cause us to remain frozen and not want to move into that path. Thatโ€™s how I felt. And as it was as I was listening to a sermon that the answers came. And I realized that I could trust God in the unknown. How you ask? Well here are the keys that the Holy Spirit laid in my heart.

How to trust God in the unknown.

1. Be aware of where you are.

I am not talking about the acknowledgement of your physical state. I am instead talking about taking stock of your mental, psychological and spiritual state. It is having a spirit, soul and heart check. Where are you? Do you truly trust God? I know you said yes before you starred the journey. But now that you are in the unknown, is your mind still set? Are you aligned with His will?

Acknowledging where you are allows you to remain vulnerable worh God. He does not want you to perform. He is asking you to shed the mask and have an honest conversation with Him. It might have been exciting in the past but maybe now you are not so sure anymore. Just tell Him anyway. Even Abraham got to a point where he did not trust anymore. And he was not afraid to tell God.

Acknowledging where you are looks like you asking God questions. Remember the woman at the well? She was not afraid to ask Jesus questions. And it was through these questions that she had a true encounter with Jesus, received her healing and deliverance and walked into her purpose as an evangelist. All because she engaged Jesus by asking questions.

Your walk with Christ is a journey.

This means it should be relationship- based. Tell Him what is on your mind. Do you have doubts? Are you wrestling with fear? Tell Him. He is not afraid of your questions or concerns. He is asking you to cast them all to Him because He cares for you. In my case my fear is that I will become another statistic. That people will laugh at me and I will experience shame in the end. But as I bring this to God, He constantly reminds me that this time it will be different. And it is because He is with me. Moses finally delivered the Israelites from bondage.ARE YOU REALLY STARTING OVER?(Opens in a new browser tab)

But he failed the first time. They even rejected him.. But when he tried it with God, the results spoke for themselves. It does not matter what society says, when God tells you to do something that defies culture or past results, I want you to know you can go all in because with God on your side, victory is guaranteed. How will your failing bring God glory?

Do you know how great God is? God is intentional and when He asks you to do something, He knows the outcome is that you will win. Do not be afraid. And just like He told Joshua, God is telling you to be bold and courageous because He will never leave you nor forsake you. Itโ€™s okay to admit that you are scared of the outcome and prefer a safe path. Be honest, real, raw and vulnerable.

2. Watch out for the confirmations

One of the reasons I can encourage you to trust God is because He will not hesitate to confirm to you the path He wants you know when He knows you need it. Kindly note that I donโ€™t mean the kind of confirmation where you seek it out. I am talking about the unexpected God winks.

An example would be when you are having a conversation with a friend or loved one about something. Then they shift the conversation and touch on the very thing in your heart yet you had not discussed it with them. They could tell you a positive aspect about the thing in a way that confirms what God had been saying.

It could even be a phrase in a movie that suddenly highlights what God had been telling you. Or you reading a scripture and the Holy Spirit reveals an aspect of your situation in a way you had never seen before using the said scripture.

These are God-winks. It is God’s way of reassuring you in a way that speaks specifically to you. Remember He is personal. He knows how to speak to you and confirm what He is saying. And the beauty about this kind of confirmation is that, you will know. You will not need to force it. It will come naturally. When this happens, let it be a sign that God is speaking to you. Allow Him to dispel the doubts and fear in a way that only He can.

3. Lean in to Jesus as it will help you learn to trust God in the unknown

This looks like you remaining in Him. Abide and allow Himย  to become the center of your life. In order for you to trust God in the unknown, consistent communion with Him is essential. In Him you live, you move and have your being. When you abide in Christ, all the other voices lose their power over you. You realize that the societal pressure and rules no longer define you. Spending time with God allows you to get to know Him in a way that makes it easy for you to trust His leading.ย  As you fellowship with Him, yo get to see His heart and know Him. The same way communing with another human being gives you room to know their character and if good trust them, is the same when you commune with God.

Spending time with Him does not have to be complicated. This just looks like you allowing Him into every area of your life. Giving Him first priority. Cultural standards and the constant need for people’s validation will leave the more you abide. John the Baptist spent time with God in the wilderness so much so that he became different.7 Keys To Help You Move Forward in Life.(Opens in a new browser tab)

And Paul?

Who would have thought that his mind would be renewed and he wold go from being religious to having a relationship with Christ? Can you imagine him walking on the same path he had murdered other people for walking in? That must have taken courage and a boldness that did not come from men. And we see in Galatians 1:17, he had a season of separation. In this season, he learned to rely on God and abide in Him. The overflow of his communion gave him the confidence to trust God in the unknown.

As we can see from Paul, his confidence to trust God in the unknown came from the overflow of his relationship with Him. You cannot rely on other people’s experiential knowledge of Christ to guide you i your journey to the unknown. Cultivate your own personal relationship with Him.Having a relationship with God will influence your way of thinking. The more you spend time with God, the more you start thinking like Him. And soon enough you will realize that trusting Him in the unknown becomes easier and second to nature.

4. Allow His strength to override your weaknesses

Don’t try to act strong. This is a journey that you cannot predict the outcome. When God becomes your strength, your limitations no longer define you. It is true if you follwo this path relying o your strength you will end up just another statistic. And that’s great. Because this will make you aware of the fact that you need His blueprint. You cannot move unless He says so. Of course I am not endorsing laziness. But what I mean is that you get to the point where you admit your insufficiency therefore giving Him room to move in your life.

God is attracted to your weakness. It is when you are weak that He can now manifest His presence. Relying in His strength looks like.

A. You seeking His counsel before you move. Ask Him for His blueprint. In the morning give Him the first place. Seek His voice. Say like Moses said. That you will not move unless He goes with you. Look for what the Bible says concerning your situation. Amd follow the instructions laid out.

B. Don’t try to seek validation from society or other people. Follow through with the instruction He has laid for you. Humble yourself before Him. Not from a place ofย  false humility but from an honest place. A place where you truly acknowledge that He is the One in control of your life. One who knows the end from the beginning. And as you do that you will find that asking for His help and receiving Hks strength becomes easy for you. Through surrender you let go of the drivers seat and wheel. It is in that place that you finally experience His sufficiency. And that where you get his blueprint that leads to your success. In Him you have your being and you live.
