5 Unique Financial Truths Christian Millennials Should Know
God already gave you your field (Your money source )
You see, oftentimes we imagine we are the ones to figure it all out when it comes to finances. That could not be further from the truth. The truth is that God already laid out your purpose and what you need to thrive in this world. Why would He create you and not give you the means to meet your needs? Of course, in order for you to figure it all out you need to look within yourself. Which boils down to you, having a relationship with God. Remember how God gave Joseph an interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream that led to elevation?
It is in your God-given purpose that God has hidden your finances. Do you know what your purpose is? If not you need to discover it. Some questions you can ask yourself include
- What skill comes naturally to you? God has equipped you for the role he has for you. Leadership came naturally to Moses and that was why even before God encountered him, he felt the need to protect his own by killing the Egyptian who was oppressing the Israeli man.
- What skill have people complimented you on? People will always identify where you are gifted even when you don’t. That is why the book of Proverbs reminds us that our gifts will make room for us before kings and queens
- What irks you? What problem do you always find yourself desiring to fix? That is your purpose. God created you as a solution to the world and that is why he placed that burden inside you.
God does not operate as man has, and His strategies are always unorthodox. But even the simple strategies, if breathed on by God will get you to your place of elevation and financial freedom.
How do you then get to a place of discernment?
- Relationships with God will lead to you being sensitive to hearing His voice when He speaks.
- Reading the word of God. You know there are strategies found in the word of God that God will use to get you out of your financial limitations. Check out Dave Ramsey on YouTube to see how the Bible led to him gaining financial freedom.
- Fellowship with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit wants to guide you on your financial journey. And for Him to do that, you need to make room for Him. This looks like you setting time to intentionally hear from you. In those moments, you get to familiarize yourself with His voice, which then gives you the sensitivity to act on the word He will give you. Had Elijah not been sensitive to the voice and leading of God, he would not have known to go to the brook for provision during the drought season or even leave for Zarephath when the brook dried up. As you commune with Him, He will give you strategies and ideas that will lead to your financial freedom. Your prayers are not in vain. It only takes one God idea to change your life forever.

Diligence and consistency
It is in diligence that you will get to your place of financial freedom. Honing your craft leads to excellence and expertise, which in turn leads to success in your finances. Even the world reminds us that determination and hard work are the sure way to success. When you are not consistent in your dealing, you will not experience the success you desire. After all mastery and excellence are found in diligence. The more you practice your craft, the more you will perfect it and this will give you an edge over your competitors landing you the best opportunities to gain financial freedom. And to prove to you, let me give you scriptures.
Proverbs 28:19
He who cultivates his land will have plenty of bread. But he who follows worthless pursuits will have plenty of poverty.
Hebrews 6:11
We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end so that what you hope for may be fully realized.
Proverbs 12:24
Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.
Proverbs 10:4
Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.
Proverbs 13:4
A sluggardโs appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.
Ecclesiastes 9:10
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
Proverbs 22:29
Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.
Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Wisdom is yet another one of the financial truths Christian millennials should know
You know wisdom leads to success. Wisdom will lead you to make sober decisions and investments that will only elevate you moving you from glory to glory. Success is the Hebrew word Sakal, meaning to be prudent, be circumspect, act wisely, understand, prosper, give attention to, consider, ponder, have insight, have comprehension, act circumspectly, and act prudently. (Josh Hunt)
The goal of wisdom is for you to put into practice the knowledge you have to solve problems and create solutions which in turn get you rewarded.
According to Content Hacker, content marketing was worth just over $400 billion in 2021. There was no stopping the revolution underway. And if the research is to be believed, itโs going to grow another $269 billion or so by 2024, bringing the total worth to over $600 billion in 2024.
And guess what the TOP outsourced activity is?
โฆContent creation.
And as we all know content creation is simply being able to use wisdom to offer solutions. See how wisdom applies as one of the financial truths that Christians need to know? The beauty of wisdom is that you can ask God for it. He promises that when you ask Him for wisdom, He will not deny you and in fact, He will do so generously.
Another aspect of wisdom is that when you have it, you will make wise investments which will prevent you from losing all your livelihood and what you have worked for.
Scriptures on wisdom and how to obtain it.
Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
Daniel 2:20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed, be the name of God forever and ever: for wisdom and might are his.
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Psalm 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
Tithing and the first fruits are financial truths Christian millennials should know.
Most people don’t like hearing the word tithe because of the abuse that has stemmed from it over the years. Unfortunately, the tithe is a part of the laws that God gave Moses. The truth is that God does not need our money. Tithing only benefits us as His children. God in His Sovereignty can even rain silver and gold. After all, He provided manna for the Israelites for 40 years in the wilderness. And not only that when Peter asked Jesus about tax, Jesus instructed Peter to go and fish, and in the mouth of a fish, he would find a coin enough to pay their taxes.
This goes to show you that God can take care of all His needs if He so wishes. However, He chose to partner with humanity. And that was why He gave us dominion over the earth in Genesis 1:26-30 and Psalm 8:6.
So what is the tithe? Simply put the is 10% of all of your income. The first person who ever gave a tithe was Abraham after he rescued his nephew Lot and took plunder from Lot’s enemies Genesis 14. After that, however, God put it as part of his laws in Leviticus 27:30 ‘‘A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord” and Deuteronomy 14:22 ”Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year”
What are the benefits of tithing?
To answer this, let us look at Malachi 3
8 โWill a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.
โBut you ask, โHow are we robbing you?โ
โIn tithesย and offerings.ย 9ย You are under a curseโyour whole nationโbecause you are robbing me.ย 10ย Bring the whole titheย into the storehouse,ย that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,โ says theย Lordย Almighty, โand see if I will not throw open the floodgatesย of heaven and pour outย so much blessingย that there will not be room enough to store it.ย 11ย I will prevent pests from devouringย your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,โ says theย Lordย Almighty.ย 12ย โThen all the nations will call you blessed,ย for yours will be a delightful land,โย says theย Lordย Almighty.
From these scriptures, we see that God promises to do these when we tithe
- Open the floodgates of heaven
- Pour out blessings that there will not be enough room to store them
- Prevent pests from devouring crops (Read this as God protects your finances by ensuring that you don’t spend money on expenses that will dwindle your money. Things such as unnecessary car breakdown or even frequent doctor visits etc.)
- Vines in the fields will not drop their fruits before they are ripe (Maturity of your investments)
- Nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land (Abraham was blessed so much so that the Amalekites were scared of him and even asked him to leave. Tithing makes you wealthy. And wealth goes beyond money by the way)
I hope you see the benefit of tithing and how your finances will be protected the more you tithe. Of course, the goal is not to do it for the reward. After all, God is the one who owns everything. So essentially, you are giving him what He has entrusted you with to begin with. Tithing breaks off control that money can have on you. This prevents money from becoming an idol in your life. It is when God trusts you with finances that He will bless you with them. Tithing is one of the best financial truths Christian millennials should know.
What are the first fruits? And what are the benefits of giving God your first fruits?
Simply put, the first fruits are the first result of someone’s effort or work. And this is often in monetary value form. Therefore, it does not just mean fruit from that land. But it can be from your investments too.
4 scriptures that talk about the first fruits.
Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
Exodus 34:26 You shall bring the very first of the first fruits of your soil into the house of the Lord your God.โYou shall not boil a young goat in its motherโs milk.
Ezekiel 44:30 The first of all the first fruits of every kind, and every contribution of every kind, from all your contributions, shall be for the priests; you shall also give to the priest the first of your dough to cause a blessing to rest on your house.
Deuteronomy 18:4 You shall give him the first fruits of your grain, your new wine, and your oil, and the first shearing of your sheep.
From these scriptures, we see three benefits which are
- Barns will be filled to overflowing.
- Vats will brim over with new wine
- A blessing will rest over the houses
The key thing to note here is that God protects what you surrender to Him. And especially with the looming recession why not resolve to partner with Him?
Generosity and sowing are the last financial truths Christian millennials should know for now.
Being generous with what you have is very powerful. Not only do you build equity with God. But you also build equity with others and you can cash in at your time of need. Sowing on the other hand is pretty similar to an investment. This is where you opt to use your finances as a seed that you will reap later. Now I will not talk much about generosity because I do have another blog post on the reward for your generosity which you can check out. I will however talk about the benefits of sowing.
And to help us with that, let us look at the scriptures.
Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
2 Corinthians 9:6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
Ecclesiastes 11:6 Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.
Genesis 8:22 As long as the earth endures, seed-time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.
Proverbs 11:24-25 One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
Ecclesiastes 11:1-4 Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again. Give portions to seven, yes to eight, for you do not know what disaster may come upon the land. If clouds are full of water, they pour rain upon the earth. Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there will it lie. Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.
Based on these scriptures, let us look at the benefits of sowing
- There will always be a harvest
- You will gain more than what you sowed.
- The more you sow, the more you reap.
Again the fact that the reward will always be greater than the seed, why not make sowing a part of your lifestyle? When the widow of Zarephath sowed into Elijah, God sustained her throughout the drought period. Remember, every seed has a harvest tied to it.
Conclusion
I hope these financial truths Christian millennials should know will help you take a serious look at your financial journey so that you can experience the abundant life that Jesus came for us to experience. You don’t have to live a life full of struggles when God has given us the keys we need to succeed. These financial truths will also help you because God promises to protect your finances when you follow His laws. Are you scared of the recession? Does inflation also give you sleepless nights? How about you follow what God is saying? Do not allow your life to stay as it always has. God wants to meet your needs. The question however is, are you following His principles?
