The reality is that there are seasons where it’s easier to have faith than others. You see, it is easy to have faith and trust God’s plan when everything is making sense and life is going according to plan. But what happens when that’s not the case?
Let’s look at the life of Sarah for a second.
God gave her husband Abraham a promise and told him that He would bless him with a son. At the time Abraham was 75 years. Since they had a 10-year age gap, Sarah was roughly 65 years old. Although it seemed impossible at the time, it was doable after all, they had a word from God.
Fast forward to a couple of years later and now Sarah is 75 years and the promise has yet to arrive. How was she to hold on to a promise 10 years later? She took matters into her own hands and through Haggar, Ishmael was born. Yet even after all this, God still appeared to her husband who was 99 years and confirmed that the promise was still valid. Imagine that! This was 24 years later. And her was God promising Abraham that He would bless him with a son through Sarah. Sarah must have been wondering, how it would happen seeing that the years had gone by. After all, if she couldn’t get a child then, why would it be easier for her to get a child now?
Let me ask you this, has life thrown enough curve balls at you to the point that it almost seems impossible for you to achieve your goal? Does the promise God gave you seem so far-fetched because the years have gone by? Well, let’s look at the life of Sarah and find out what God wants to teach us about faith in uncertain times.
How to have faith in uncertain times as a godly sophisticated woman.
Imagine Abraham explaining to Sarah that God would still bless her with a son despite her old age. That must have been comical to her. No wonder she laughed when she overheard the angel of the Lord tell Abraham that she would have a son the following year. Anyway, what situation are you experiencing today that looks similar to Sarah? Maybe it’s not a child but a job. Do you feel like your certificates are too outdated to make it in the current job market? Maybe it is a business. Does it look like others have better software and blueprints it seems unlikely that yours will succeed. Here are 5 keys that will help you have faith in uncertain times.
Look back at the goodness of God to help you have faith in uncertain times as a godly sophisticated woman.
You see, the truth is that although God had yet to bless Sarah’s womb, there were other areas where she had experienced the goodness of God. God had sustained them in a foreign land for 24 years since they left home. He had also prospered them in a foreign land. God had protected their union to the point of shutting the womb of the Philistines because Abimelech had taken Sarah to be his wife. He also protected Abraham when he went to rescue Lot his nephew. Despite Lot taking the land with the most fertile soil and conducive for livestock, God still preserved their livestock and even multiplied them.
The same can be said in your life. Today I want to encourage you to take stock of your life. In what areas have you experienced the goodness of God? Granted, you might not have received the answers to that specific prayer or seen the manifestation of the promise. However, it is safe to say that there are areas that God has come through for you.
You see, doing this will help you gaze on the beauty of God’s goodness and minimize the intensity of the uncertainty. This is because you will find that the more you focus on God’s goodness the more you experience a shift in your mindset. And as you do that, the awareness of His Sovereignty will minimize the current fear of uncertainty. There are times when God will not take you out of the storm. Rather, He will want you to experience His grace. And have the awareness of His presence amid the storm. David knew that all too well, that’s why he said even though he walks through the valley of the shadow of death, he will fear no evil.
Scriptures that will help you gaze on the goodness of God.
Lamentations 3:25-26 . The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.
Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.
Having honest conversations with God will help you have faith in uncertain times as a godly sophisticated woman
Unless you can be honest and vulnerable with God, you will not have faith in uncertain times. You see, every relationship requires trust for it to thrive The same applies in your relationship with God. If you want to have faith that lasts and can weather even the hardest of storms, you need to be able to trust God. How else will you trust Him if you can’t be honest with Him? For you to build that faith you will have to start with an honest conversation. It is okay to tell Him that you lack the faith. After all, even Sarah received her promise despite her not having faith for the promise. The same case applied to the Shunamite woman. Though she lacked the faith to believe that she would have a son, God still blessed her anyway.
God does not want you to try and put on a show. He wants you to come to Him naked and unashamed. He wants to have a real, raw, and authentic conversation with Him. And He already knows what is in your heart. You see, God knew Sarah doubted what the angel had said, He could see. God pointed out that Sarah laughed in her heart. How wild is that? (Genesis 18) Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable with God. I want you to know that He can be trusted. And it is when you are vulnerable with Him that you will receive the healing you need to grow the faith for your miracle.
God knows your level of faith. He knows that you are scared to trust Him. And He even knows that you are struggling to believe that He will do what He promised and hence the uncertainty looks daunting. Still, He is asking you to come to Him today just as you are. With all the doubts, fears, and concerns, run to the Father. Let Him heal your trust in Him so He can rebuild your faith.
Here are scriptures that will help you bare your soul to God
Psalms 139:23-24 NIV “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalms 145:18 NIV “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”
Psalm 51:17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
2 Corinthians 12: 8-10 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
God is attracted to your weakness. It is in your weakness that you will find His strength. And it is when you are honest with Him about your lack of faith that He will help you rebuild it. He is not asking you to rebuild your faith on your own, He is asking you to let Him in so He can do it with you. Let Him in.
